HUAC stands for House Un-American Activities Committee. It was formed in 1938 to research both Communist and Fascist activities in America. It was made by Hoover who thought the FBI wasn't doing enough. HUAC was made to expose Communists, Communist sympathizers, and fellow travelers. Hoover sent FBI agents to investigate groups suspected over telephones and in real life. One of the first trails was called Hollywood on Trial in 1947. It accused 10 screenwriters of being un-American. They used their rights to not testify, but they are suspected because they create movies and TV shows about communism and other groups.
