This quote comes from the time where Christopher was interviewing Mrs. Alexander on Mr. Shears in the park. It's important to note this because it's the only time in the book someone explicitly refers to themself as being Christopher's friend, even when he seemingly rejects them.

"'Don't give me that bollocks, you little sh**. You knew exactly what you were bloody doing. I've read the book, remember.'" Page 81

This quote comes from the confrontation Christopher's father has with him after he reads his book detailing how he went against his wishes. It's important because this is the only time we see Christopher's father call him something out of his name other than 'stupid.' It highlights just how angry he is; 'You little sh**,' carries significantly more weight to it than a simple 'how stupid are you?' or something of the sort.

The song connects to the theme of the book, because there is a lot of secrets going on in the book. Including the secret about who killed Wellington and what really happened to Christopher mother. This song talks about secrets and giving all your secrets away.

Looking back, this is a bit fishy. The fact that Mrs. Alexander knew Christopher's mom but wasn't aware of her "death" is a little odd and raises a few red flags. If his mother's affair was such an open secret, why wouldn't her supposed death be at least known to other people?

She's sweet and wholesome, but spending too much time around her might be bad for you. It looks like she's a little bit of a gossiper, but it's more probable that she felt responsible for telling Christopher the truth about his mother and Mr. Shears.

On this page, Christopher's father grows violent after finding that Christopher went against his direct orders to cease his investigations. It's critical that this is noted, as it draws attention to the father and his motives: Why is he so secretive about the death of the dog?

Additionally, it shows Christopher's home as being dysfunctional. he notes that his mother had hit him before because she was a 'short-tempered person,' but now the father is falling in her footsteps?

This is significant because it punches a massive hole in the credibility of the father. Why was he keeping his own child's letters from his mother away from him? What else could he be lying about?
