The Mao Genocide occurred in China from 1934 to 1976. This occurred in the attempts to turn China into communist society. Those attempts were made by a leader named Mao Zedong. Mao did whatever he could in order for him to have complete control over China. The Long March, was the first major event in the genocide. In an attempt to flee the invaded Chinese city of Jiangxi, Mao took 10,000 soldiers and peasants across 6,000 miles. Thousands died from starvation, dehydration, and disease. Mao was not concerned in the slightest about his people however. Mao made many poor reforms and desicions while in power that resulted in death of Chinese people, but the most notable has to be the Great Leap Forward Movement. In an attempt to turn China into a socialist nation, he caused The Great Chinese Famine, through rapid industrialization. China was launched into a deep economic depression, and caused over 50 million Chinese deaths.

According to the book, "Mao Zedong" by Anne Faulkner, published in 2003 by Raintree Steck-Vaughn Publishers, printed in Hong Kong, "By the time he died, the country had been unified as the People's Republic of China...China was once again a world power." Before Mao, China was in the last stages of imperial power, fallen under attack by Japan and other foreign countries. When he came into power, he helped China stand up to fight against Japan, and was able to unify China once again.

Secondly, in the article 'Mao Zedong' by Spencer Tucker, published on ABC-Clio, opened on January 22nd, 2019, it states "Instead, Mao tore China apart in witch-hunts for the "demons and monsters" who had frustrated his efforts." Although Mao left China's government in a great position, he left the people of China broken and lost. He killed thousands of innocent people and left people without a home or a job. Many were left enslaved on the farms, without anyone to fight for them.

During this Genocide, Hitler was in power in Germany, and the holocaust was happening. After China had defeated Japan in 1947, the U.S. went into The War in the Pacific with Japan.

In the book 'Mao Zedong' by Anne Faulkner, "Those who had spoken up were stripped of their office and privileges and sent to labor camps in the country." The "A Hundred Flowers" campaign was a campaign made by Mao and invited people to give their opinion of his actions and policies, in order to make better decisions in the future. This was all a ruse however, Mao's goal was to find those who disagreed with him and send them to labor camps.

Next, The Britannica article, 'Mao Zedong', published November 15th, 2017 describes, "The industrialization that began during Mao’s reign did indeed lay a foundation for China’s remarkable economic development since the late 20th century." Mao was able to make economic change andchange China to an agricultural and industrial economy. Before his rule, China was stuck in an economic position with Japan, but after his reforms China was made into a world power once again.

Finally, the book 'Mao Zedong' by Anne Faulkner claims, "Even so, the movement made most people too frightened to criticize any of his policies and allowed him to go on to his next campaign completely unopposed." Almost all intellectuals could see the flaws in Mao's plans, and disagreed with them. But his propaganda and campaigns made people afraid to speak up, ultimately led to him gaining ultimate power.
