I believe that the US should take a role in Latin America by providing aid to strengthen governments, eliminate corrupted officials, and help protect the environment. For example, the United States could provide funding to environmentalist groups in Brazil to try and protect the indigenous lands since Bolsonaro believes in increasing agribusiness in the Amazon rainforest. They could also send aid to other conservation groups, such as the Thomkins Conservation in Argentina, to help recover biodiversity and maintain the critical ecosystems present there. Additionally, the United States could help combat political corruption or unrest in nations such as Haiti, where the president has died and gangs are able to run rampant. Venezuela and Nicaragua are also facing political corruption as individuals are desperate to maintain their power.- Angela Kulp

I do think the United States should take a role in Latin America. The whole purpose of the UN Global Goals is to work together as a whole to be able to achieve them by 2030. Latin America and the United States are very connected, they have the largest foreign oil supplier and fastest-growing trading partner for us. Latin America is very strong in that way, but other problems have been surfacing these past years. For example, problems like inequality, poverty, and security in communities. Much concern has risen and the United States should bring prosperity and stability throughout Latin American. One way we could bring the good for everyone is to not buy meat if it is coming from somewhere not good for our economy. A lot of communities are losing their homes and lives to cattle ranchers. Not buying this product would slow down these cases. This should help decrease those problems through economic, political, social, and environmental causes.
-Jessica Fix

I believe that the U.S. should take a role in Latin American in terms of financial and emotional support. It's not the United States' responsibility to interfere with other countries' issues. I do believe, however, that America can support Latin America by giving funding to those in need and starting campaigns to aid in poverty. They could jumpstart programs that ensure that children can go to school and don't have to worry about if they will be able to eat. The U.S. can also spread awareness of the issues that are taking place such as the push for legalized abortions.

I think the US should play a role in Latin America by providing them with economic, environmental, and political support. This could be achieved by assisting Latin American governments to become more effective and powerful, which could happen by taking action to get rid of corrupt officials such as Nayib Bukele. Since deforestation is one of the main sources of its economic income, the US might potentially take steps to assist in the implementation of rules on
the forests that reside in Latin America. Maintaining positive relations between Latin America and the US is crucial since the region is required to assist the US in securing its borders.
- Jillian Cruz

I believe that the US should take a role in helping latin America. For example in Venezuela they sit on one of the largest oil reserves, and they cant extract it because the government owns all reserves and multiple international countries will not buy crude oil from Venezuela. Having the US helping them out would strengthen the world economy by allowing more production of oil into the economy. In Columbia the cartel runs the show. They force coca farmers to work for them. The farmers need the money so bad that they have to comply. Having the cartel making cocaine makes Latin America a very dangerous place. The US should help to stop this because not only is the cartel in Latin America but also in America. America needs to stop this because it is making the city dangerous and putting peoples lives in danger. In Haiti there is nothing stopping the gangs. America needs to stop this because it is putting innocent lives at danger. One you stop violence with police and other means more people and businesses will want to invest in Haiti because the crime will be lower. This can lead to more education and job opportunity. Having these thing will boost their economy and well being making it a better safer country.
-Brent Pustejovsky

I believe the United States should take a role in helping Latin America by providing them with economic stability. Though it is not the United States' responsibility to help Latin America, I believe they should to a certain extent. The first UN goal these countries are collectively trying to reach is No Poverty. Countries like Venezuela and the Dominican Republic are facing extreme poverty, where 3/4 of people are living below the poverty line. So if The United States were to help them economically by creating funds and financial aid, and somehow making more job opportunities for these people to get sustainable living conditions, the issue; of poverty would be resolved. - Aya Awawdeh

I believe that the U.S. should play a role in Latin America by supporting and strengthening their economy, Mainly in Venezuela and their oil crisis, which will at least put Latin America on its feet. They can do this by funding their oil industry in Venezuela (PDVSA) so people can start getting better pay and better management and car to the oil rigs. This will help stop pollution to their ocean and oil coming out of people's gas lines. The U.S. can also provide environmental support in which they give strengthen organizations against deforestation, mainly in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil because it has such a huge environmental impact on the earth. The amazon rainforest is also home to many tribes and they will be homeless if deforestation continues. So funding to help at least preserve and try and save what we have right now in the Amazon Rainforest. The U.S. can also take action in supporting Latin America politically which will really help Latin America tremendously because one of the main reasons why L.A. is in all this poverty, debt, violence, pollution, etc. is from bad government control and corruption mainly from the current leader in Venezuela with Manduro.

For example the US can help Venezuela with their current oil crisis. We can give money to the PDVSA. Venezuelans need Americans to clean up the mess they have and give Venezuelans a chance to be reborn in the oil and gas industry again. You could also donate food and medical supplies to children in Venezuela and Peru. Children are eating from land fields, and dumpsters, when we could be sending food down to them.

The US should help Latin America in any way it can. For one thing, they should take down the leaders of the cartels to decrease their power. They can also give funding to these countries to better the lives of the people there which would give less influence to the cartels. The US should also invest in pro-democracy groups in Latin America and promote peaceful protests. The reason the US should do all of this, is because it́´s kind of the US fault for all that́´s happening since they installed many dictatorships and destabilized many of the countries in Latin America. Not to take the blame away from the dictators that hurt their people, but the US had a part in it.

The United States should help Latin America and help start implementing the United Nations' global goals. The US has more powerful resources that can aid in making Latin America a more safe and more sustainable place to live. In certain areas like El Salvador and Chile, the violence in the streets caused by gangs and out-of-line protests is turning into a battle against the government. This constant battle creates a hostile environment. If the United States goes in and starts promoting sustainable societies (one of the global goals) then maybe those countries can learn to have a safer community. Another major issue in Latin America is environmental concerns such as deforestation and the destruction of soil due to major lithium extraction. These issues cause big changes to their environment and can lead to more problems later in the economy. To combat climate change it would be beneficial to implement the global goal of sustainable consumption, and the United States can step in to help on this one.

The US should help Latin America with economic issues, specifically Venezuela. Venezuela has a ton of oil, but for some reason it is one of the poorest countries in the world. With the US's help they would bring the nation out of the despair that the country has suffered over the past while. Also throughout Latin America there are plenty of countries who are in need of either financial aid or in need of infrastructure to get their economy off its feet. The US could invest in these countries by giving them money now to kickstart their economy, but later down the line request some kind of return. For example, the US could give Venezuela the money to build more oil rigs, in return for cheaper oil prices once the nation can make a profit of their oil.
-Dylan Tietjen

They have families on hunger strike families who are poor no homes. I think that those who are destroying the amazon truly don't know what they are doing because that amazon could be very beneficial. I think another take on this could be sending more military down to places in the amazon to keep people from burning it down and destruction. Another thing could be in the DR and Haiti and how unfair it is for Haitians when it comes to selling food for money and having to wait till the DR to finish setting up before they can set up and start selling. I feel like overall the violation of human rights should stop and US can help with that

The amount of resources America spends for developing countries is less than 1% of their budget, roughly lives could be saved for less than one thousand per life. If we help a country in need at its darkest hour, and America is ever in need of help Latin America could help and save us from the crisis.

I believe that the United States should take action and have a role within the Latin American economy. We are more financially aided, therefore even our smallest efforts would make an exceptional difference towards their weaknesses. For example, we could help end their poverty and any financial needs, as well as the amount of security in their communities with military support. I also think that the UN global goals will not prosper without support from all around, therefore not only the US should help, but other countries as well. Latin America also plays a big role in our oil industries which is very crucial to the US, so the US should take pride in our connections and continue to grow our support towards them. If we want the UN global goals to be completed by 2030, we should be helping to the best of our ability to reach these goals.

Cooper Cuntz

I think that the US should take a role in Latin America by providing economic strength and support. The US is its own country which Latin America is not a part of. The US is thriving far more than anywhere else and I think it is reasonable to still provide aid to Latin America. We are a country that does a lot and I think it wouldn't hurt to help the UN reach their global goals. Assisting in their funding could help start programs to increase education and help eliminate poverty . The US itself could also start their own program that helps spread awareness of these issues that will further help them. By helping, it will leave a positive look on the US and help keep a close connection between the two and will help benefit both.

Role of US in Latin America

I think that the US should take a role in helping Latin America by providing the countries with resources and food. In doing this the US will be helping lower the amount of people that are going hungry in corrupt areas. For example in countries like: Argentina and Haiti they are experiencing increasing poverty due to an unstable government who won't provide the necessary cash flow and resources for their people. Poverty has especially risen in Argentina due to a 70% increase in prices (inflation) which has caused many Argentines to be unable to purchase groceries/food to survive. So by sending these countries food it ensures they won't have to spend their small earnings on expensive groceries/food. Which would help these people by allowing them to spend their earnings on other things like stable housing or clothes for their family. So to ensure a better life for the people of Latin America the US needs to step in and give these countries necessary resources and food.

I believe that the US should help Latin American countries, but only to a certain extent. The US has the resources and systems that when applied to L. A. could lift them out of their current, troubled state. However, it's also important that these countries don't grow to great of a dependency on the US. Our country could greatly contribute by providing and stocking food banks in countries like Venezuela where malnutrition rates of children are still increasing. As In addition, the US could try working with countries struggling with economic instability like Puerto Rico and Venezuela. To combat this specific issue, government officials could work hand in hand to implement economic systems that would spark growth, and provide a long term stability for the countries. Once able to find security, the US could then gradually let go of the countries to support themselves.

The United States should try to take a role in Latin America to help the people. The main problem in Latin America is the corrupted officials. In many countries, leaders such as Maduro and Bolsonaro, have caused many problems for the people living in their nations. Venezuela sits on the world's largest oil reserve but suffers due to hyperinflation. The United States could then send people to help with the economy and the poverty Venezuela is currently facing. A similar act could be done in Brazil. Bolsonaro does not care about the Amazon and many indigenous people are losing their homes due to deforestation. The United States should have another Bay of Pigs invasion in Latin America.

I think that the US should take a role in Latin America by providing financial support to improve the corrupt government and environment. As seen in Venezuela, corruption directly impacts its citizens emotionally and financially. Money should be sent in order to finance programs that will help improve the hunger and poverty situation. Because the US obtains $2 billion worth of gold from Brazil, funds should be sent to them to aid in the implementation of project mercury and prevent illegal gold mining. Action should also be taken against the corrupted officials of Latin America, as they are the root cause of most of the issues occurring. - Natalia Alikhan
