They have modernized quite a bit. Some of them even look nicer than the hotels we have in America. The bedroom layout didn't change very much. The amount of beds stayed the same and the amount of space has stayed the same for the most part.

The rooms are pretty and the cafe is really pretty and modern looking. You used to have to share showers and bathrooms with lots of people and it was just not enjoyable. But now the rooms have small amounts of people and are much more enjoyable. The inside of the youth hostels are very pretty now and there are lots of activities to do their like tennis and socializing. The insides look very nice. Many of the youth hostels have been renovated. When they got renovated they looked more like hotels and they looked much more modern. They have become much more modern looking. Also they have progressed to fit in with modern day interior design.
