Why: Great Britain gained large territory but ultimately was at fault because they had to tax America. Which led to the American Revolution, The Indians helped the French to fight against The British to decide if the Upper Ohio River Valley was Britain or not. WHAT: Hobbes' book addresses the cause of civil war and offers a solution. He suggests that the way a government is set up and organized influences the people all the time.
WHEN: Thomas Hobbes was born in the late 1500s. He published his book, Leviathan, in April of 1651.
WHERE: Thomas Hobbes was born and raised in England, but often traveled back and forth between Paris and London.
WHY: Hobbes wrote the Leviathan in response to the fear he felt when the English civil war broke out in 1642. He believed the best form of government was an absolute monarchy. He also believed that the people should give up all their power to one ruler and thought that the government should be involved in all aspects of everyday life.

  • Elitism- The belief that the Rich or people who are "better" than the common population would hold power.

  • Marxist ideas are common everywhere but Marx was a German author and political theorist 
  • The separation of political power between the rich and working-class needed to be explained to the people of their time. We can even use Marx's ideas now.
