The Hippie Movement happened during the 1960s and 1970s. It was a prominent time in SF history because it rejected the restrictive morals of a traditional middle class life and promoted the anti-war movement. She remembers seeing the detailed geometric shaped outfits and the big hair people had in Haight Ashbury.

As a child, Vicky used to take the bus weekly with her family from the Sunset District to SF Chinatown. When switching buses downtown, she recalled seeing a lot of construction as large buildings were being erected such as the Bank of America Tower. At the time, skyscrapers for corporate buildings and apartments were being built. It was called "Manhattanization" because it mimics the appearance and progress of Manhattan, one of the most populated cities in New York.

The Loma Prieta Earthquake (also know as the 1989 or World Series Earthquake) was a 6.9 magnitude earthquake that greatly affected the Bay Area and it's citizens. My mother was riding in a car when the it started around 5:04PM. She recalls being stopped next to a Muni bus and was scared because it was swaying vigorously side to side, hoping that it does not topple over and crush them. She says the aftermath brought a lot of sadness and devastation as roads, homes, and lives were lost. It would take a long time before the city recovers.

Some causes included consumer debt, mortgage lenders, etc. During this time, Vicky learned the importance of saving money for both short term and long term purposes.
