Today is my second day in the course, and I think the course is very useful for me. My tutor Jamie is very patient in teaching us. During today's class, I realized that more practice is key to learning English, as we need to use the language in our daily lives. In the past, listening was my weakness because I couldn't find the main points. I hope to improve my listening skills through this course, which is very important for my future studies in the UK.During my self-study time, I will also listen to more English materials to enhance this ability. Finally, I am very thank to my tutor and hope we will have an enjoyable learning experience over the next 15 weeks.☺️

Reflection on Making Paper Airplanes✈️

In today’s lesson, We designed and produced a paper plane.I was interested in learning how to make a plane that can fly far and finding different between the plane fly far and short. I think the good part is the choice of paper. I chose a paper with suitable stiffness, and it has already been written on, so even if the paper airplane fails, it won't waste paper. I think making a plane easy before I making it, but I was puzzled because the plane I made for the first time could only fly a short distance. So I see the video again, and I find that in the video, every step of making the paper airplane involves smoothing the paper, but my airplane didn't have that, so in the second time, I was more careful with each step. When I completed it I try to fly it again and I find the second plane can fly farther. It went well because I got the result I was looking for. It is a important discovery for me, and I believe if we do everything carefully we will do better. So I will be careful in my future course or work. In addition, when we learn to do something by video, we can stop it and Complete it step by step, this way the effect will be better.

From this task, I learn many things such as careful and patience and it will be use in the future learning.

Through the course content, I have learned the basic information of the identity project. I understand the project because the “identity Module Project Brief”show the information clear. In this project we have 7 part including select, explain, research, explore, creative, present, reflect. I think the most interesting thing is the explore, because in this part I can built connect between the work’s identity and my own, I believe it’s a important thing for us work. In addition I interested in Create a poster, because in this part I need to summarize all my content to make my post clearer, so that at this stage I can have a clearer understanding of what I am doing. However researching the creation of the work and its influences are difficult for me. In next step I need to find the different information about art and choose one of it to start my project.

As a woman who has been studying away from home, watching this work has also resonated with me.

The pre-session English course has been conducted for 8 days, during which I have gradually familiarized myself with the course content and exam settings. Now, I still find the content of language classes very interesting, and I deeply realize that learning a language is a gradual process. At the same time, I have also found that cultivating interest in learning is very important for learning a language. In the past, I could only memorize and translate Chinese words one by one, but through this period of learning, I have found that using English more in your daily life can greatly increase your vocabulary. During this period of learning, I have found that reflection is a very important thing, and I can hear this word almost every day. I believe that through daily reflection after class, I can definitely improve my English ability.

I wasn't surprised by any of the examples because the education I received has always emphasized the importance of adhering to the appropriate exam rules for every test. In the future I will also abide by the exam regulations to complete my studies.

This week, I always tried to speak in class, especially during group discussions and presentations. On Monday, we had to finish a presentation about last Friday’s meeting. In my group, we decided that each person would present their own part, so I was fully prepared for my section. I was quite satisfied with my presentation. Through this experience, I realized that being fully prepared makes the presentation more polished. Practicing multiple times before class also helped me a lot.

However, I didn’t speak when my groupmate needed help. I felt very nervous and ashamed about this because I hadn’t reviewed our group work in time. As a result, I wasn’t familiar with the other members’ content and couldn’t explain their ideas properly.I learned that preparation boosts my confidence and performance, but teamwork requires understanding everyone’s work, not just my own.

After the presentation, I felt proud of my part but frustrated about missing the chance to support my team. Next, I want to improve my abilities through the following points.

Small improvement goal:

- Preview the entire group’s work before discussions/presentations.

2. Next time, I’ll try to:

- Ask at least one question in class.

- Offer help if a teammate struggles.

“Identity is important for artists and designers. Do you agree or disagree?”

Identity plays an important role in personal life, social interaction, and legal affairs, mainly in identity verification, information protection, and social participation. At the same time, confirming the artistic value and identifying the attribution of art both rely on identity. So I agree the opinion which identity is important for artists and designer.

The first reason is building awareness of identity avoids plagiarism. Building awareness of identity people will sign their artwork or add iconic symbols, This can effectively avoid being plagiarized. In addition, when people have awareness of identity, they won't try to plagiarize.

Secondly, people can build connect with each other through identity. Identification methods often have a meaning, and this meaning can resonate with the audience. For example, Henrik iIbsen's self-imposed exile to Italy and Germany at the age of 27 permeates his work, so many people resonate with him when they see his work.

Finally, Many stories can also be extended from the identity. There are many ways to identify yourself, such as location, culture and Life Experience etc. So it will have many story though the method.

To conclude, I believe identity is very important for artist or designer.

I felt a little bit nervous at first, because it is my first time finish all presentation by myself in English. I was very happy after the speech. Although I didn't perform it perfectly, I at least completed the presentation. I very enjoy presenting because the theme of this time is to introduce a place, I chose a place that is very important to me. I'm really happy that I can share this place.

I think my photo worked well, because I enjoy taking photo and I believe it can help me keeping my beautiful memory, so I have lot of photo to show this place. The part that didn’t work so well was sound, I'm very sorry that I don't have a better way to collect sound, which makes it impossible for everyone to hear clearly during the class.

Today's speech left a deep impression on me about Taipei. This is because when Clara shared about Taipei, she recounted her personal experiences. At the same time, I found that incorporating a personal story while sharing can help the audience better receive the information.

I like to receive any part of the feedback because I can supplement the information I missed, and at the same time, I can know that my classmates are absorbing the content of my speech.

In this week, I’m always try to writing such as a small essay and reflective task. The reflection assignment took less time because we have been practicing reflective writing since the start of the course. However, the short essay took quite a long time. The topic of the short essay was similar to that of an IELTS writing topic but different from the writing reflection. Therefore, I spent a long time thinking before writing.

When writing the reflection task, I felt relatively relaxed because I had been practicing constantly and was quite clear about the structure of reflection writing. However, I felt rather confused when it came to the mini - essay part. I wasn't sure how to present its structure better.

In this week I foundUsing reflective writing templates can help me saved time and creating bullet-point outlines helped organize the essay eventually. In additio, I also have some challenges for example over-researching before writing, and I will feel anxiety.

Even though I'm not that confident in my writing, I'm still willing to share it. At the same time, I hope my classmates can point out my mistakes, so that we can help each other and become better together.

ThoughtCo, Apr. 29, 2025, thoughtco.com/a-dolls-house-themes-4628157.

This article demonstrates that Ibsen's 'A Doll's House' profoundly critiques the oppressive nature of bourgeois values in the late 19th century, especially through the lens of gender and power relations. The play reveals how money and social appearances dominate interpersonal relationships, using the term 'symbol' to describe Nora as a doll. The sacrifices of other female characters contrast with Nora's submissive situation, reinforcing the revelation of broader social oppression. By intertwining themes of money, morality, and gender, 'A Doll's House' serves as a powerful critique of the dehumanizing effects of patriarchy and bourgeois structures.

This article illustrates what behaviors people exhibit in a patriarchal society, such as women being unable to borrow money and men always considering women as their possessions. It also explains the meaning of the title of this play—the doll symbolizes women of that era.

In this week, we learn something detail about presentation and how to do a poster. I feel very nervous because this is my first personal five minute speech but I also very happy to share with everyone what I am interested in. In addition I also learn about how important and how difficult to do a well presentation.

Before our presentation we need to finish our poster, and I find poster can help me to presentation. When I start my project research I have always been clear about the purpose of my research. I think this is what I do well. But I found it quite tricky at the beginning because I have never done a poster before, so I don't know what the structure of a poster is. So planning or structuring my ideas is a big problem for me. I'm not sure about my logical sequence. When I was looking for research sources, I only searched for things that interested me, but I couldn't connect them. I realized that I might be missing a lot. After discovering these issues, I consulted with classmates who have experience to do a poster and spent a lot of time searching for research sources again. In the end, I believed I had achieved success because I was able to organize the logic clearly and knew how to present my project to my classmates

Now I can understand how to do a poster and how to presentation well, and I realize before we find research source we must think about logic, then search for research sources based on logic. It also can help my speech easier to understand. In next time I will complete the project step by step and logically at the beginning of the project. With this experience, I hope my next speech will be confident.

In week 4, we learn about how to improve presentation skill. What left the deepest impression on me was how to use presentation language; I felt very nervous. During my undergraduate studies, my major in broadcasting and hosting required me to give many presentations, but it was my first time doing an English presentation. I found there to be a significant difference between Chinese and English presentations.

Thanks to my experience during my undergraduate years, I quickly sorted out the content and created a PPT. I think this is my strength. Moreover, the experience from my undergraduate days has also been of great help to me. For example, when giving a speech, I speak louder and at a slower pace to ensure that everyone can hear clearly. I've found that these methods are applicable in presentations as well. However, after learning, I found that in the PSE course, the teacher would provide a lot of presentation language to help us with transitions. While during my undergraduate years, the teachers only required us to convey the information. I discovered that using presentation language for transitions makes the presentation more logical, and the preparation before the presentation allows me to clarify my thoughts more clearly.

After a week of study, I've realized the importance of logic. A logical speech makes my presentation easier to understand and my expression clearer. Using presentation language is an important way to demonstrate logic. During this week, I'm not yet familiar with using presentation language. However, I will keep practicing it in the future to make my speeches better.
