Facilitating Advanced Word Reading
We chose this because in looking at the hierarchy of the Big 5, out-of-context word decoding (and spelling) seems to be the best place to start. This intervention suggests ways to intervene with students who are having a difficult time learning to read multisyllabic words, especially with prefixes, suffixes, and inflected endings.

Facilitating Advanced Word Reading
We chose this intervention because Ayisha had problems "mainly in relation to two-syllable" (multisyllabic) words (page 516). Also, this intervention would serve as a bridge between phonetic instruction and one of her strengths, oral vocabulary, because it goes over morphographs and their meanings. This would probably not be as appropriate for Ben, who does not have the oral vocabulary to "bridge to."

This intervention would be the most beneficial to Ben because he does not have one to one correspondence which led to his not being able to read fluently. Also based on Ben's data he has difficulty reading two syllable words and although his rate and prosody are poor it was not always because of decoding difficulties. Therefore in order for him to become a successful reader there are steps he lacks such as translating written to spoken sounds, knowing basic words parts, etc. that he needs specific instruction in.
