Judicial Branch

The job of the Judicial Branch is to interpret laws and look at cases to decided if what happened was constitutional or unconstitutional (was justice served?) The building that these cases are taken in is called the supreme court. The people that make up the Judicial Branch are the 9 Justices, which consists of 1 Chief Justice and 8 Associate Justices. All of these Justices have a term of life unless they die, retire, or get convicted by the Senate.

Executive Branch

The Executive Branch is made up of the President (leader of the Executive Branch), Vice President (Will take over the role of President if President dies), their advisors, and the cabinet. The job of The Executive Branch is to enforce the laws of the U.S.A. Some example of what the President can do is Veto or sign bills into becoming laws and make treaties with the approval of the Senate. The way the head of the Executive Branch is elected is obviously through Presidential election. The way through this is every 4 years a new President will be elected and whoever gets more votes then the other wins.

Legislative Branch

The Legislation Branch is made up of 2 houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Legislation Branch itself makes all laws, decides when to declare war, controls taxing and all spending policies. The Senates term is 6 years long while The Houses of Representatives is term is 2 years.

How did the Constitution come to be?

Before the Constitution was crafted the U.S. government was all over the place. The plan to create a Constitution was brought up and the Articles of Confederation was created but at The Constitution Convention they ditched the idea and came up with a new idea. But not many people agreed with it because the people didn't want tyranny. But when more people started to understand it was what the U.S. needed and more people started to spread the word it was good it was eventually ratified and put in to action.

Checks and Balances

Checks and Balances basically means/shows how the 3 branches of Government (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) balance each other out power wise. Some examples of this is how Congress can make laws but the President can veto them, and if with enough votes the Legislative Branch's can override that veto. One more example is how The Judicial Branch can check the Legislative and Executive Branch by declaring laws unconstitutional.

Amendments

Their are 27 Amendments in today's constitutions. That can and probably will change in the future to come (hopefully in a good way), but each amendment plays an important role in today's society and that is to keep this nation alive. For example the first amendment gives everyone the right to freedom of speech, press, and peacefully assembly. Before all of the amendments were added, they made the first 10 and those were called the bill of rights. One of those amendments was the 10th amendment and of that time was the power was reserved to the states.

Strengths and Weaknesses of The Constitution

Some strengths of The Constitution is how a lot of the amendments do balance out the powers of the government, for example a cop cant just search your car without a warrant of probable cause. Some weaknesses of The Constitution is how if people arent aware of their amendments and rights then they can get the short end of the stick when they really could've gotten so much more.

Failures of The Constitution

An example of a case that failed The Constitution was Wainwright V. Gideon, and what happened in this case was basically an innocent guy getting caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time and being arrested. When he asked for a free attorney and was denied one that goes against our 6th amendment right that states you will be provided with a free attorney if you cannot afford one for yourself. So this whole case is an example of a failure in The Constitution.

Hopes for The Future

Some stuff we can hope to be better in the future is getting more better amendments and maybe changing some of the amendments we have right now and making them better.

3/5s Comprimise

The 3/5s compromise was made really long ago and it was also made when slaves were legal and what is did was basically make all slaves in one states population count as 3/5s. Obviously this compromise was scratched because slaves are not legal anymore and this shows how messed up the Constitution used to be.
