Years later, the animals have finished the windmill and are still working for Napoleon and his pigs. The animals look through the window to see the men and the pigs talking and laughing together. While looking at them toasting, the animals starts thinking that the pigs are actually becoming human, then back to animal again. They don't even know the difference anymore between them. The farm has reverted back to its original ways.

The animals are told to gather around Old Major since he has an important speech to make. He starts off by saying how important each animal is to the farm, and what would happen without them. Then, he begins to address the current situation that they are in. He shares the idea of starting a revolution against Jones to free themselves. which all of the animals agree to. Once the speech was over, they then begin to sing an old song that Old Major knew as a young pig called "The Beasts of England." Once the song was over, Old Major suddenly collapsed, dying on the spot.

However, Jones and his fellow farmers begin to plan to fight back to keep control of the farm. When the battle occurs, both sides were fighting with everything that they had. Eventually, the strongest work horse by the name of Boxer, knocks one of the farmers unconscious, persuading the others to run. Finally, the humans ran, giving the animals full control of their farm.

After the rebellion, the animals were questioning what to do to survive and thrive on the farm. Snowball decided to start the construction of a windmill to supply power to the farm whether it's electricity, water, or other purposes. However, Napoleon advised against this, leading to an extended debate on whether they should build it or not. Napoleon started getting frustrated at what Snowball was doing, which led to him sending his secret attack dogs to drive Snowball out of the farm and secure Napoleon's rule. The dogs drove Snowball out of the farm permanently, unanimously giving Napoleon control of the entire farm and its plans. At the end of the debate, Napoleon did earn his rise to power, but he decides to execute the construction of the windmill anyways.

Throughout time, the animals continuously built the Windmill, hoping that their extra labor would eventually come into fruition. They had their rations reduced due to financial struggles. However, this did not stop the animals from working just as hard, especially the workhorse Boxer and their oldest mule, Benjamin. They finished their project, overjoyed with their accomplishment. However, the humans came back for another battle against the animals. The animals fought back as hard as they could which succeeded in driving them out. However, someone sneaked into the windmill, planted dynamite and exploded the windmill, shattering it to pieces.

Before, during, and even after the rebellion, no one was working as hard as their strongest horse Boxer. He lacked much of the intelligence that the other animals had, but his physical capabilities made up for it. His dedication to finishing whatever task he was assigned was incredible. This led to the animals looking up to Boxer as a symbol and an inspiration to keeping working harder to achieve their goal.

During Napoleon's rule, some changes were beginning to happen that started making the other animals question if Napoleon was in a right state of mind. One of the first changes was that the Pigs were beginning to sleep in the beds of the farmhouse which was prohibited in their seven commandments. Another action was that the pigs were also drinking the spare whiskey that Jones had around the house before leaving. The animals kept thinking about this and decided to look at the commandments. However, when they got there, the commandments said, "No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets" and, "No animal shall drink alcohol to excess." Benjamin and Clover were skeptical if this was always there, but they decided to leave it be and continue on with their work.

Squealer, who was known to be the primary speaker for Napoleon, was now ordering everyone to praise Napoleon. At first, it was just addressing him as "Comrade Napoleon." However, it kept expanding to even banning the singing of the song, "Beasts of England" to compensate for singing a song which praised Napoleon for all of his supposed accomplishments as the leader. The poem, which was translated into a song, was wrote by one of their fellow pigs by the name of Minimus.

After a critical injury that Boxer endured while building the windmill, he was ordered to rest for a few days to recover as Napoleon was ordering for a Veterinarian to come. Then, a wagon arrived which was believed to be the wagon that Boxer will be taken in to be treated for his injuries. However, as Benjamin read the logo on the wagon, he realized that this belonged to a slaughterer who was going to kill Boxer and then turn him into glue for other purposes around the town. Once Benjamin and the other animals realized this, they tried to help Boxer escape the wagon. However, it was too late and Boxer was gone. Later that day, Squealer claimed that he was with Boxer during his final breath which was a lie. He kept on how Boxer was praising Napoleon for his leadership before he died, mentioning his mottoes time and time again. However, the fact of the matter is that the animals lost their strongest and their most loyal worker in the farm which left a big role for the animals to fufill.

As they went to rest for the night in their stalls, a storm came through the farm and destroyed the windmill once again. The animals realized this and immediately ran to check on the status of the rubble. However, they looked at it and realized that it was beyond repair. Even with their great amount of sadness and emptiness, they went back to rest and decide what to do next.

As Napoleon's rule kept on, the living conditions for the animals worsened by the day. Their rations were reduced drastically while still being made to work harder. Meanwhile, the pigs were starting to act more and more like Mr Jones and the humans did while they were still in power. They were wearing clothes, drinking alcohol, sleeping in beds with sheets, and even carrying whips and killing the other animals when there was disagreement. Their rule has gotten so unbalanced, it led to the pigs erasing the old commandments and writing only one commandment, saying, "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others."
