The author's use of alterity of this protagonist allows the reader to be captivated in the unique perspective of this self-aware alien. Marquez' work reflects how history repeats itself: with the same reappearing names and the events that take place, the reader is incapable of identifying the concept of time. Instead, the past, present, and the future collide and coincide to create a new reality from the perspective of the protagonist. This defiance of a conceptual border allows the magical realism to surround the reader and force them to question whether time is really just a concept, and if the endings of these stories are the same regardless of "time".
