On April 24th, 1915, hundreds of armenian scholars and intellectuals were rounded up, arrested, and executed. For the next two years, the empire slowly took armenian land and routinely massacred the armenians. Armenia is now a much smaller country than its neighbor, Turkey. From a country of over 2,000,000 people, the population had declined to a mere 400,000
