We bring students out, just right outside school to look at things as simple as accessibility features in a neighbourhood.

This allows the students to get out of the classroom and it is quicker to conduct than to bring them far away.

Tapping on local areas to demonstrate concepts

While teaching the concepts, showing them pictures of the area in which they live/ areas surrounding the school. Getting students to share their ideas of how their lived experience is related to geographical concepts taught in class.

Conducting field investigation by using local areas such as accessing the local ponds/rivers to investigate on water quality and how human activities may affect the water quality.

Connect life in the past to the present. Conduct interviews of people who had lived in the area to find out how life was like.

1) Conducting surveys/interviews with tourists.

2) Using the river just outside the school for GI - gathering of authentic data for analysis.

3) Getting them to link what they learnt to examples in their neighbourhood.

Study old and new maps of a place. How do the changes affect the older residents? Students do interview to collect data from the old residents to find out how they feel about the changes and what they would like to see being kept to remain connected to the place.
