I know I’m defiantly not alone in this, but it still really effected my childhood. I rode the bus home to and from school everyday. On my bus there was this girl. Yes it might sound weird to be bullied by a girl, but at the time I was really shy. I never stuck up for myself and just laughed it off. Honestly it helped me a lot because now it is very hard for people to effect my mood. Our familys were very close and Marit was at our house almost everyday. She was the most caring and gentle person I have ever met. Her family, the Swensons, are amazing at tennis. She was a top ranked player at her age, and her brother graduated early to play professional tennis. She was a totally normal girl, until one horrible horrible day. On that day in 2016 we found out that she had developed terminal brain cancer. It was unimaginably hard for us and a million times harder for her family. I will never let her death be in vein as I continue to reflect on it and learn from her regularly. During my time there I joined “NHS”. A requirement of that is to spend 10 hours of your time volunteering in your community. I reached out to a local charity and they invited me, my girlfriend, and best friend to come help them pack “covid boxes” for the homeless. They would have things like rapid tests, tissues, and basic medicine. When we showed up there was nobody there, but across the street was a foodtruck, and a line of homeless. I went over and asked them if they had sent me the wrong information on what we would be doing, but it turned out they were unaffiliated. I called the person who sent me the info for that day, and frantically she appologized because the event was canceled.
