         <description><![CDATA[<div>Religion- The Powhatans worshipped many gods, but there were two main ones: Ahone the creator and Oke the demon. The Powhatans tried to appease Oke by giving him gifts of tobacco, furs, and beads. Ahone was a mainly peaceful god who was also called the Great Hare. A legend explains the creation of the tribes, when the Indians came out of a hole in the ground, they went into a dark forest. They ended up splitting inside a dark forest, and that is how the tribes are formed.</div>]]></description>

Towns were located on rivers, where they could gather water and fish. Animals there included woodpeckers, deer, foxes, and raccoons.
