• Describe and comment on what your child is doing. This exposes them to new vocabulary and sentence structures, and research shows it's particularly beneficial for language development in early childhood.

• Encourage your child to ask and answer questions about stories and what is going on around them.

• Ask them to share their thoughts and emotions with you. 

Personal Social and Emotional Development:

• Encourage your child to be more confident, independent and to approach challenges (even the little things like coat zips or gloves).

Physical Development: 

• Gross Motor (big movements): Practice different ways to travel. For example: running, jumping, skipping, hopping and climbing.

• Fine Motor (small movements): Any physical activity which is fiddly. For example: zips and buttons, threading, building and taking apart Lego, making newspaper balls, making shapes with playdough, using tweezers, using scissors.

Literacy:

• Read together and ask questions about what you have read (look up Blank Level Questioning for ideas).

• Letter formation (search for Upton Infant School Letter Formation videos on YouTube)

• Sounding out (segmenting) words and blending them back together using phonics sounds.

• Practice writing simple sentences – focus on: capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Maths

• Count up to and beyond 20.

• Explore the different amounts that make numbers up to 10 (e.g., 3 + 2 = 5, 6 + 4 = 10, ...)

• Notice patterns and shapes wherever you can.

Understanding the World

• Talk about things from the past, special places, special people and where they live. 

• Retell stories and events.

• Explore nature (and get messy!)

Expressive Art and Design

• Any craft or arty activity you can think of. 

• Drawing, colouring and painting

• Sing songs, tell stories and make up your own!

We offer a FREE Breakfast club for Reception to Year 6 pupils from 8.30am. Breakfast club is supervised by school staff. Children are offered a range of cereal, toast and fruit.

Parents do not need to book a place, you can register upon arrival at the main school entrance. Please complete the registration form to ensure staff are aware of any allergies.
