For example, the most common application in this field is helping treat children with autism. I am interested in this career because I have always been interested in how people function in different environments and would love to help people.

Lindse Collins talks about how her goal is to help children with social skills, communication, and behavior. She emphasizes that she and Blue Mountain Therapy, the company she works with, always focus on the client's wants and needs. She assists them in learning day-to-day lifestyles like brushing their teeth and interacting with other children. She states that she wants their main takeaway to be independence. This career still interests me because this video gave me insight on what happens on-the-job and it looks like Lindse was incredibly passionate about what she was doing, which is special. I want to learn about how the career effects those who work in it: are they stressed most of the time, calm, etc.?

Part III: Reflections of Self Section

I am currently a junior at Sacramento State majoring in English. Whenever I tell people this, they always ask me if I want to become a teacher. The answer is usually a "no", but I am not opposed to it. My career path is set on being an author or an editor at a book publishing company because of my passion for literature. After reviewing the requirements for Behavior Analysts, I find it so interesting that people have this as a profession. It is such an amazing, helpful resource for people who are in need of treatment and those who provide that treatment are incredibly patient and understanding. Behavior Analysts are there to assist (mainly children) in their everyday lives, giving them a push in the right direction, examining how they react to their environment and using that knowledge to create a plan of action for them to be successful in their development. Though my career goals in the real world do not align with this job, I think it is very respectable and necessary to help people grow into independence. As someone outgoing and friendly, I think this would be an interesting career path for me to explore, but I believe the people who take on this role must be passionate about what they are doing because it can get difficult occasionally. The requirements of this field include some education in ABA such as obtaining an ABA degree and 2,000 hours of practical training in the specific field you want to be part of. This reflection has helped me because it made me realize the significance this career has on people today and how crucial it is that we have people in this world who provide these services to those who need it.
