The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly- Katherine-Grace

The Good:
Theseus was the prince of Athens, long suffering by having to send 7 young men and 7 young maidens across the sea to be sacrificed to the Minotaur in the labyrinth underground. Despite his privilege, he valiantly volunteered to be offered as tribute so he could kill the Minotaur and stop the suffering of his innocent people.

The Bad:
He took advantage of and seduced the princesses of Minos to help him get to their half brother, leading to Ariadne to plead in his behalf for a solution (being the string) to Daedalus. And, more chiefly, in his victory, he forgot his promise to his father King Aegeus to put up white sails if he lived, and his watching father, in his grief, threw himself off the cliffs of Athens just when his beloved son was returning home- thus being, accidentally, responsible for his own father's suicide, making him king.

The Ugly: Theseus loved Phaedra more than Ariadne, despite Ariadne's vital role to his victory over the Minotaur and his survival of the labyrinth. His repayment for this, is dumping her off on an island while he sailed off to Athens with her sister to marry. This is another excellent example of the mistreatment of women in mythology- that once they meet the boy, they fall all googly and will even betray their family for them, with the expected repayment being that they will be discarded as soon as they are useful- also evident with the similar treatment of Medea, from that extent Hippolyta, and Europa, Io, etc.

(The ugliest: -revised) His abduction of Hippolyta, Helen, and/or Persephone is appalling. Here's Hippolyta, giving up her girdle without a fight, and he takes advantage of this kindness. Or innocent Helen, just a girl in Artemis's temple, and kidnapping her because she was the most beautiful, and then leaving her with his mother to grow up because he realized she was just a kid and unfit for marriage. And even the attempted abduction of Persephone (mortalized). This is just disgusting and completely unheroic, where, jacked up on his victory against the Minotaur, he feels like he can stomp all over the faces and hearts of Greece.

Prince Theseus bravely sails to kill the beast and succeeds, saving the sacrifices in the process.

Bad:
After seducing Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos, and receiving her help in killing the Minotaur, he abandons her. While she is sleeping his leaves her on the beach in Naxos.

Ugly:
Theseus kidnaps the 13 year old Helen from her home.
