I've always been greatly fascinated by history and was very enthusiastic about explaining historical events or monuments to my peers. However, sometimes memorizing or analyzing timelines can be very challenging. Thus, when you ask some students about their country's history, sometimes they give out incorrect or uncertain answers. This is a great disappointment for me since I believe that the future of a country is greatly affected by history, therefore if the youths aren't knowledgeable about history, they would have difficulty leading the world to a better place. Hence, to make learning history more entertaining and enjoyable, I want to make a musical about historical figures.
I was greatly inspired by Lin Manuel Miranda's "Hamilton". Especially, I was amazed by how this musical masterpiece was able to get thousands of American students to study more about the American revolution. I'm an avid fan of the Harry Potter series and I've read them over 10times. Harry Potter has been one of my favorite books for such a long time that, I've created a book club all about Harry Potter with my friends. However, the more I read the series and watched the movies, the more I realized that Hogwart was a very problematic school. The main reason I believe that is because of the 4 houses created by the founders of the magical school. From the very start, the founders decided to create houses in order to select certain students with specific personalities to educate. However, as time passed, these houses became one of the main standards when discriminating against students. For example, the Slytherins were often framed as being shady and evil and were constantly hated among others. Or, Huplepuffs were regarded as weak and pathetic and were often ignored. A school should be a place where all students feel accepted and welcomed. Dividing students by their traits are not the wisest move to achieve this goal. Furthermore, students are sorted when they are only 10 years old, and once they are sorted, they could never change their house. I understand putting children in groups with like individuals with similar interests could enhance one's skills and confidence. However, it could backfire. These children are really young and many of them could still be exploring their personalities. However, defying them when they are only 10?
