Rood was a clinician who was both an occupational therapist and physical therapist. The Rood approach is a neurophysiological approach developed in 1940.  The Rood approach is theoretically based on the Reflex and Hierarchical Model of Motor Control. The Rood approach provides the origin for many of the facilitation techniques used today in neurological rehabilitation. Rood's basic concept was that motor patterns are developed from primitive reflexes through proper sensory stimuli to the appropriate sensory receptors in normal sequential developmental pattern to improve motor performance (appropriate stimulus can yield specific motor responses).  Rood techniques are very common in clinical practice. try to reach next higher levels of control.

The fast/quick stretch produces a relatively short-lived contraction of the agonist's muscle and short-lived inhibition of the antagonist muscle which facilitates a muscle contraction. a quick movement flexion and extension of the elbow to facilitate tone.
