Gifted students should be taught according to their personal interests, ability and challenged to an extend they can handle according to grade level and ability.

Yes, I do think that gifted education is a type of special education. In SPED you're supplementing the needs of those students, which is exactly what we do for our gifted students but on the higher end. I do think that our gifted should be receiving services on top of what they're doing in the classroom to help broaden their learning.

I have never thought of it this way-but I definitely would consider gifted education as a type of special education. When we consider that special education is a Supportive service to ensure students' educational needs are met-gifted education definitely meets these criteria. All students who need special services should receive them-sometimes these special services are to help students catch up to "average students" but sometimes these services can be used-as with gifted-to help them rise up to meet their full potential.

I think gifted is part of special education, because gifted learners will not be able to achieve to their ability without accommodations. They have special needs that won't be provided for with the standard curriculum. Gifted students are neurodivergent.

Gifted students should receive special services that will help them to develop and address their specific needs. Without those services, they are not likely to thrive in a regular education classroom.

Gifted students should definitely receive special services to help them grow to their best potential. These students often fall through the cracks unless their behavior becomes so outrageous that they are identified by that negative behavior which is only a symptom of the problem. The problem being that they are not having their basic educational needs being met.

I believe that gifted education is special education because students with abilities in the gifted range fall outside what is considered typical academic ability. These students are able to grasp concepts in certain areas at a faster rate and need increased challenges to stimulate their learning. When gifted students do not receive that extra challenge, they often stop paying attention and therefore cannot meet their potential.

I do think of Gifted Education as a form of Special Education because gifted students have unique learning needs. They benefit from accommodations that allow them to learn at more accelerated pace, think more deeply about concepts and explore topics beyond the standard curriculum. Providing them these opportunities will help them to reach their full potential.
