Date range: 1775-1783

Opponents/Adversaries: Britain (King George III)

Outcome: We won the war and created the original 13 colonies that would eventually become America as we know it.

Consequences: Self-governance

Outcome: The United states won, forcing Mexico to give up nearly half of its territory, as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe.

Consequences: The US gained the Mexican Cession (520,000 square miles of land from Mexico to the United States), which later became California, Nevada, New Mexico, etc.

Opponents/Adversaries: Great Britain (King George III)

Outcome: The Americans won the War of 1812, although all the trade issues were unresolved.

Consequences: The British gave up claims to some of its land in North America.

Outcome: The Confederate army surrendered to the Union army. There were over 1 million casualties, including wounds, diseases, and POWs

Consequences: The continuing struggle for civil rights for all Americans

Outcome: Ended Spain's colonial empire in the Western Hemisphere and secured the position of the United states as the Pacific power.

Consequences: The United States obtained Puerto Rico, Guam, and $20 million for the Philippines in the Paris Peace Treaty.

Date range: 1917-1918

Opponents/Adversaries: Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and Turkey (Central Powers)

Outcome: Ended with the Treaty of Versailles, America won

Consequences: Broke down empires, drove the US to become a world power but 9 million soldiers perished and this world war paved way to Hitler's communist uprising in Germany.

Outcome: The Allies won

Consequences: This was the most extensive and the deadliest war in history, with causties in between 40 million and 50 million.

Date range: 1950-1953

Opponents/Adversaries: (Communist) North Korea, in attempt to defend South Korea

Outcome: Nobody really "won" the Korean war, but the US and its allies were successful in stopping a Communist uprising in Korea and prevented major conflict with China.

Consequences: The US assumes the role of global police officer, interjecting wherever there is Communism. The Korean peninsula was left divided and therefore split up families in both places.

Outcome: The war ended with the fall of Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, leading America to withdrawal.

Consequences: Nearly 60,000 Americans and an estimated 2 million Vietnamese died.

Date Range: 1990-1991

Opponents/Adversaries: Iraq

Outcome: America interjects Iraq's invasion of Kuwait with Operation Desert Storm and after the war, an all out invasion of Saudi Arabia was prevented.

Consequences: The only real consequences with the Persian Gulf War were on the soldiers in Iraq suffering from something called "Gulf War Syndrome." (a form of unexplained illnesses suffered by soldiers who served in the Gulf War. The symptoms include fatigue, bone pain, cognitive issues and skin rashes.)

Outcome: Saddam Hussein was assassinated and his alleged weapons of mass destruction confiscated.

Consequences: A near decade of civil war and occupation, no discovery of WMD, and the deaths of more than 4,400 American troops, and, by some estimates, 300,000 Iraqis.

Date Range: 2001-2021

Opponents/Adversaries: al-Quaeda, and terrorism

Outcome: Following the events of 9/11, the American government deploys troops to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Consequences: The creation of the TSA and over-all airline safety protocols, and long-term PTSD in soldiers and those who witnessed the towers.
