During the ask stage we discussed the structure of a rocket and what each component would do to help our rocket. We then spent time compiling the resources to be able to complete the task and finding ways we could make it travel farther.

This was our first attempt with the rocket. The balloon did not easily released upon the removal of the clothes pin. It was delayed and did not have forceful power. It only traveled about half of the 25 feet and then lost power. We realized we had to find a way to get the ballon to release quickly so it would have the most power.

To improve we focused on the balloon and how the clothes pin it attached. If the clothes pin is across the balloon then it should quickly release and slide down the string. We planned to change the way the balloon was clipped.

The Engineering Design Process allows room for improvement and creativity. It is not simply a multiple choice activity but something that requires students to analyze the assignment. Even if they fail, they have to complete it again. This helps to build strength and perseverance when competing a task. Skills like that are social emotionally necessary for students at a young age. To learn teamwork and cooperation and that not everything will work the first time.
