1. He had a lot of good qualities or characteristics namely, he was a very good orator and used his "powers" for good. He was an accomplished writer and and a very good military leader. Although he did some good things most of the things he did, the cause was for selfish and harsh reasons. He did good things for the wrong reasons, and that takes away the whole good things. He abused his power and his rank.He was a player and the first article states "He was a notable ladies man,".
It also says that "he rallied his troops by his own personal exertions". Before Rome was a republic, after Julius Caesar went through with it "Rome was a dictatorship on it's way to becoming an empire." Julius Caesar led his army into a civil war and there were a lot of fatalities. This was his choice and could have avoided a full frontal war.

3. Caesar mostly did things that benefit him only, but he persuaded all his followers that he did nothing wrong. I agree with Allison that he had all the power so everyone was scared of him and he didn't really need to justify his actions. If they said no then they knew the risk and its consequences. He was a well known orator and agree with Liyansha. He could manipulate people who questioned him. He had power because they believed in him. He didn't have much influence, so he made himself have influence. Eventually the people realized that he was one person and he didn't have this much power or people to help him out of another situation.

Question 1-
In Center

Question 2-
I think that Cleopatra and Egypt supported Caesar. I think This because in the text it says that he made Cleopatra his "surrogate to Egypt." Also, I think that the plebeians also supported Caesar. In the text it says that "shepherds and trumpeters" came out and supported Caesar in the the
war.
I think that the senate was against him because at first they were maybe supporters of him but over time, they realized how he was gaining so much power and how much the people loved him so they decided to murder him.

Question 3-
Caesar justified his actions by manipulating people into believing what he was doing was okay because the people thought he was a God. In the text it says that he was a "spell-binding orator." For example, he manipulated his way into a place in the consul. He was very popular so no one questioned him.

Question 4-
History portrays Caesar as a leader of Rome. In the text it says "Caesar was a large role in the transition of a republic to an empire." History also shows Caesar as a very harsh man. In the text it says that he would "seize his men by the throat and he would throw them back into the lines of of the enemy."

Opening Question-
I think that Caesar is a tyrant. I think this for many reasons. One reason being that, according to the article, he would "seize men by the throat and throw them back into the enemy lines." Also, he wanted all of the power and would kill people in order to get it. Moreover, he would manipulate people into doing what he wanted. This is shown because in the text it says he was a "spell-binding orator." This is why I think that Julius Caesar is a tyrant.

1. What were Caesar's good qualities or characteristics? What were Caesar's bad qualities or characteristics?
- Caesar had the amazing power to convince people to do things with his words. He also took very good care of himself- with his clothes and skin- but he had big plans for himself, and Caesar would do anything to make them come true.

Comments- I think that Caesar wanted power, but that he knew what to do with his power. He didn't want power for the sake of having power, he had a plan for what he wanted to do.

2. Who supported Caesar? Who was against Caesar?
- Caesar was supported by many people in the Senate- until they turned on him- and the people who worked for him. His wife and his friends were also on his side. Caesar also made some people support him- through force. The people who were against Caesar were the men in the Senate- eventually- and Pompey.

Comments-
-I think that Cleopatra had many reasons for supporting Caesar. One of them was that she wanted power, and another one was that she was scared of his army. I think that Caesar and Cleopatra also fell in love... but I'm not sure about that one.

3. How did Caesar justify his actions?
-Caesar justified his actions by feeling that he was correct through the military. If he was wrong, Caesar believed his army would help him. His speeches were another reason for how Caesar justified his actions. According to Article #1, "He became a spell-binding orator able to sway others to his will thought the force of his words."

Comments-
- I agree that he justified his actions through words. He convinced people- and himself- that he was doing things that were in the best interests of Rome.
- I think that Caesar made up reasons to kill people that stood in the way of his power.

4. How does history portray Caesar?
- History portrays Caesar as an amazing leader, general, and writer. According to Article #2, "Born with unbridled political ambition and unsurpassed oratory skills, Julius Caesar manipulated his way to the position of consul of Rome in 59 B. C." Without him, Rome would have been very different.

Opening Question: Was Julius Caesar a Roman hero or a tyrant?
- I think that Julius was both- part hero, part tyrant- but I think that he was more of a tyrant. For example, he exiled many people, including Tillius Cimber's brother. Caesar made himself dictator for his whole life, so he controlled all of Rome. Caesar also killed Pompey because Pompey was a rival leader. Those are some of the reasons that Caesar was a tyrant, not to mention the fact that he turned Rome into a dictatorship.

He forced his military to fight against their will, he crossed the river with out the Senates permission, he rebelled against the Senate, and he he did all of these things because he was very power hungry.

1. One of Ceasers good characteristics was his military. According to the article, "He was a brilliant military leader, who over nine years of continuous fighting conquered Gaul adding modern-day France, parts of Switzerland and the Low Countries to Rome's possessions". One of his bad traits was that he would force his soldiers to fight the enemy even if they didn't want to.

2. The Senate did not support Ceaser and they stabbed him to death. One of his supporters was was Cleopatra. I believe that Cleopatra only supported him because she wanted power.

3. Ceaser crossed the river and attacked the Roman Republic because he was power hungry. He also stated that he did things in the best interest of the people.

4.

1)Caesar"s good qualities are that he had a way with word. He could convince other people that he was right. This is also a trait that he used for bad. He made the government make him consul through word. Also another one of his bad qualities were that he killed people because they disagreed with him. Caesar only cared about himself and him holding power. His need for power caused many civil wars.
2) The people who supported Caesar are the Egyptians and the people. The people who were against him were the rest of the Roman government because when the senate called for Caesar to resign he refused making the government his enemy.
I agree with Andrew because according to article the facts that he stated are true.

Opening Question

Was Julius Caesar a Roman hero or a tyrant?

I think that he made himself appear like a hero which makes people think that he is one. But this action shows how much of a tyrant he actually is. He disobeyed the Senate when they clearly said to not cross the river with his army. He also threw his army back into the war even if they were unwilling. He made himself appear rich so people would would fear him and agree with him. He grew up in the lower class of the richer people, so him using is wealth to manipulate them wasn't a good idea. He knew what he was doing was wrong, but everyone thought he was superior and wouldn't talk back or else they would be hurt or killed. He made everyone go against the Senate and finally that ended and he was killed.

What were Caesar's good and bad qualities?

Caesars good qualities were that, as stated in the article, "He was a brilliant military leader," this shows he could lead people well. Even if he was a good leader, he may ave sometimes abused his power. He would injure or torture his soldiers. If they didn't want to be thrown back in the war, he would pull them out and make them fight. He was cruel and self centered.

Who supported Caesar? Who was against Caesar?

In article 3, it says, " Before leaving the region, Caesar established Cleopatra as his surrogate ruler of Egypt. If he trusted her this much, she probably trusted him as well. For example, a leader and sub-leader are usually close and in agreement. Someone against Caesar, was Brutus, one of his close friends, but this wasn't because of his views on how to lead Rome, it was because of his distrust and annoyance at his wife.

How did Caesar justify his actions?

Caesar justified his actions helping his army out in being strong. He led them successfully into the Civil War. Since he was a good leader (even if he was rude he was an okay leader) he helped his army.

How does history portray Caesar?

History portrays Julius Caesar as a hero, even though behind everything he was manipulative, a murderer and a torturer and more horrible things. He made everyone think that he was good by putting a different image of society in their mind so everything seemed like it was against them so when they hurt those people it was okay.

Julius Caeser was a bad man in the best way. Julius was organized and very fashionable. He wore laurel wreath as a symbol of power. The laurel wreath expressed that he won a war that the Romans may have not won without him (which was very impressive and and has very high ranking). Julius also was an acceptable soldier. Sadly he was very manipulative and became a dictator and he was eventually killed.
2. Julius Caesar had temporary allies. I believe that almost everybody he met was charmed into be his ally and then turn into his enemy. For example, the Senate and the people of Rome supported him but then got wary of him and killed him at the foot of his enemy's statue. Though people say the he was allied with egypt but his only "ally" was Cleopatra who i believe was only in for the power and title. Julius Caesar had no real friends or allies.

Some of Caesars allies included the bulk of Rome, and most of Egypt, but I think that in the end the people abandoned him. Some of the enemies of Caesar included the Senate because of the fact that they were some of the people who killed him, also I think that another of his enemies included the enemies of state, because of the fact that he lead an army into neighboring territories.

Opening Question: Was Julius Caesar a Roman hero or a tyrant?
