Today we was put into groups of 3 and given the task of creating a Questionnaire, Focus Group and Vox Pop on "Gaming, is it damaging children?"

Through this I learnt many new techniques to use in the future. I took in many different peoples views on the subject. I also learnt how to use open and closed questions effectively. I think our team work well together as we all cooperated nicely.

I need to develop my planning skills as when my group did the Vox Pop it unfolded how unprepared we was. We should have done a few practice run through before actually shooting it.

Positives - Lighting, framing, introduction, enthusiasm, good number of questions

Negatives - Background noise, reading of a piece of paper as we didn't get enough time to learn our lines, questions, should have explained the question to the interviewees pre shooting because they didn't really know what they was talking about as they was put on the spot, interviewees had to keep moving their heads from side to side because we stood each other side of the camera

What i will do different next time - Brief interviewees before shooting, spend more time picking a location to therefore improve lighting, background noise and backdrop. I will only have one interviewer and try to flow more on the questions, rather than being robotic.

Today I continued my secondary research. I have discovered a helpful Media Pack. The media pack showed me many relevant stats. For example "47% of rugby union visitors are female".

I also found propaganda tips. The page talked about emphasising the dominant of the English rugby team and talking about how to use facts to boost sales. For example the fact that The England women's team are the current holders of the World Cup. I still need to complete my mind map. I also transferred my Vox Pops to my college account.

Strengths - I gained a much better understanding of my end goal and how to get there from the short talk I had with Lorraine. I now also have a greater understanding of the mark scheme and how to reach higher marks too

Weakens - Today i lacked efficiently. I was slow to complete work as files were not saved with incorrect names or in the wrong places. This was because of my rushing in the previous lesson. This skills is crustal within the Media Industry and something I have learnt from for the future. I also didn't complete my Pie Charts as I ran out of timehowever will complete as homework.

Media pack - http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/article/1368563/why-women-girls-untapped-market-rugby-sponsors

Tables - Questionnaire pie chart

The ASA could help a media producer when creating an advertisement of some sort

Overall i believe that all these websites are helpful as a producer. Each one is used for different reasons and are all the best in their own right. For example the NRS is the best when creating a magazine, it will tell the producer the readership of a magazine. Another example is that it would be best to use BARB or ASA when creating a film as they are dedicated to that area. However for radio RAJAR is more useful. This is because it is dedicated to only measuring radio audiences. When making my own product the NRS was the one to pick. This is because i am creating a magazine, therefore ill obliviously pick the magazine dedicated surveyors

Communication skills - 4
I have given myself a 4 out of 5 because i didn't have any problems communicating. However I didn't give myself a 5 because I could have communicated more. I have a good range of words at my disposal. I try to use them as much as possible in order to communicate to the fullest.

Knowledge of key terminology - 3
I believe I have a basic understanding of key terminology. I know most terminology and use them within my research. If there is a some terminology i'm not aware of but the vast majority I am familiar with. Expanding my knowledge of key terms would help when identify certain more niche areas of research

Persistence - 3
For persistence i have given myself a 3. I feel this is a fair score because when i was in i would be committed and dedicated. However i wasn't in for all the lessons. If i am passionate about a project i will persist indefinitely, which would be really useful in terms of finding obscure research, however in a situation where i am not determined i will lack persistence, and therefore overall this will effect the outcome of the final outcome.

Confidence - 5
I have labelled my confidence a 5 I am always confident when jumping into a new project. I am willing to learn and experience new things. because i am always confident in what i do and how i resent myself. I rarely if ever feel intimidated by people or work. This is beneficial to how i create and present my work

Overall i believe persistence is the most all rounded key skill. Persistence means there will be a strong end product. It shows that you are passionate and committed to the employer. However all the skills are key and needed within the industry.

Research

I visited Tesco's in Brookefield centre. They have a large range of magazines to purchase from. They sell all kinds of magazines and newspapers as they are a supermarket. Because of the large range of magazines they can target all audiences.

Tabloid

Tabloid magazines generally focus on celebrity gossip and celebrity related stories. They usually attract their audience with a bright mix of colours, bold text and an image of a person that is related to the topic of interest.

Political Newspapers

Political newspapers are souly focused on political news and issues. These newspapers promote stories and articles based on the stance of their owners, leaning either to the right wing or the left wing. They attract people that share the same wing. For example a conservative would most likely read the Daily Mail. A Labour voter would purchase The Independent. The text will always be form, generally black with a white background. The images featured on the paper will normally look intense, and will be followed by an emphatic caption.

Children's Magazine

Children s magazines feature cartoons and activities that children can interact with. The magazines usually come with toys you can send off for, or even toys that are attached to the magazine and are littered with different cartoon characters and lots of bright, bold colours.

Final comparison

Overall I have learnt a great deal about the different types of Magazine/Paper covers out there. I have learnt how each of them are designed differently for a different effect because of their different target audiences's.First of all the Children's magazine is the least informative, this is because it is targeted at a young audience that are not that academic with low level education. It is more for entertainment proposes than information. This is the opposite to The Political Newspaper; The Political Newspaper is very academic and full of information. It is targeted at an adult audience too. On an academic level the Tabloid averages in the middle. It is not very academic but is focused predominantly on adults, 18+. It is simple and considered casual reading.
