They are basically like rivals, the evidence is, Nick usually does not pay attention to what Ms. Hardwick is teaching, and when she notices it, like a tiger, she roars at him with a random question that does not even make sense. She calls him a ‘malapropism’ because he purposely misheard the word to make it sound funny to make people laugh, for example, ‘nip it in the bud’, Nick became his malapropism self when he said ‘nip it in the butt’. Ms Hardwick never really liked him for being so misbehaving and careless.
