I don´t really think there is a major difference between personal and religious faith. The concept is the same with both of them. Blind faith would be supporting something just because you are told to or other people do it, and not for your own reasons. I believe in the beginning of the novel, Elie had blind faith. He compared praying to living and breathing, it was just something he did naturally. He did not have a concrete reason behind his prayers, he just knew he had to do it. In Chapter 5, Elie seems to have lost faith. He says ¨Why, but why would I bless Him? Every fiber in me rebelled. There can be multiple types of faith. Personal and religious faith can have many differences but usually are based off of one another. Religious faith is what you think will happen when you die or what you base your beliefs and lifestyle around. Personal faith is your own moral code that changes as you experience more and grow up. Throughout Night Eliezer experiences both. He experienced personal faith when he questioned his own god because he didn't think that jews should be tortured and burned. He experienced religious the night before he left to get on the train, Eliezer prayed that everything would be ok with the rest of his family. Blind faith is having the idea that even if you can't see something you still believe in it. In Night, Eliezer had to have blind faith when he and his fellow community was being tortured. He lost his faith and questioned God all throughout the story. He did not have blind faith because nothing resembled his god around him so he no longer believed that there was a god looking out for him. Eliezer lost faith when he first got to the camp but, he no longer believed in his god when he watched a young child be hanged and die. Family and religion are two bonds that are typically very strong. No bond is unbreakable. As seen in Night Eliezer was very close with god and was proud to be jewish before he was sent to the concentration camp. His religion was tested and Eliezer could not have blind faith after being torture for so long. Faith is an extremely strong bond but, when times are tough any relationship can break. Being in the camp did make Eliezer and his fathers bond much stronger they are all that each other had and would do anything to keep it that way. This bond was formed over a traumatic event that both of them were forced to go through. Still children run away from home or are abused by their parents which breaks their bond. However, it all depends on the person affected and their willingness to forgive. Some people find it in them to look past the harm or cruelty directed at them, which then sets a precedent for others to attempt to forgive as well. Forgiveness can be a way of letting go of grudges and past afflictions in order to move forward into the future with only positivity. Specifically for Holocaust survivors,  some find it natural to forgive the terror that was placed on them, while others do not. Looking at the Holocaust from the outside only can give some idea of the horrors of it. Because of this, it is not up to everyone else to determine if the events can be forgiven. Humans live their daily lives in a more developed way than animals do. The way that humans wear clothes, cook food, and clean up after themselves is a good way to show that humans are more developed than animals are. An example of this from the text is when the prisoners are about to leave camp, but are still told to clean up the bunks. The only reason they do this is because the Blockälteste told them to clean up so the liberating army did not think they were pigs. This comparison shows how cleaning up after themselves is one of the things that separates them from being animals. A basic animal instinct that appears in regular life is the survival instinct. This can appear in any circumstance that humans feel that’s their life is threatened. For the prisoners in the camp, this happens all the time, especially during the selections. The prisoners try to do all that they can to prove they are strong enough to work. Akiba said, "I can't go on … It's over … ". Hope is the initiative to keep going because things will get better in the future. Having hope motivates people to keep pushing and maintain good spirits. In the concentration camp, prisoners did this by relying on their faith for hope, or by having hope in rumors. Rumors regarding the camp's liberation gave prisoners a small bit of hope to keep going to see a future living a normal life. However, this could be misleading as most of the rumors spread around the camp were false. As the story continues you see there faith begin to fade. This kind of bond can be broken as seen through their doubts.
