The main difference comes from the fact that English is a germanic language whilst Spanish is a Romantic language. Therefore, the differences can be seen mostly within the grammar. Spanish nouns have gender and English nouns do not. Adjectives come after the noun in Spanish. This can make learning the language more difficult for English speakers. I also learned about the Costa Rican culture. I found it interesting that people in costa rica are a very happy people overall. They have the phrase “Pura Vida” which means “Pure Life”. There culture is based upon relationships with family and friends. Now that I am going to continue learning the Spanish language, I am hoping to learn how to speak more fluently and use more specific diction. Through the online class, I was able to semi-teach myself and figure things out without a teacher holding my hand throughout the course. I was also able to manage my time with the course in a way that fit my work and life schedule. I would improve the grading scale by changing the percentage of live classes. The live classes were difficult for me to attend because of work. I took detailed notes and constantly checked over them to make sure that I was using correct grammar and pronouns. That made the language easier to learn.
