One of Douglass's main points in his narrative was that slavery corrupts slave owners.

Quote 1. Douglass writes, "that voice, made all of sweet accord, changed to one of harsh and horrid discord; and that angelic face gave place to that of a demon". Douglass is showing how Mrs. Auld completely changed under the influence of slavery. He is also showing how Mrs.Auld went from being happy to mad or upset all the time and how slavery ruined her life.

Quote 2. Douglass writes, "Under its influence, the tender heart became stone, and the lamb like disposition gave way to one of tiger-like fierceness"

As can be seen slavery is terrible for slaves and slave owners. Douglass shows this through his life experiences and using figurative language . Douglass was a self taught slave and he could share his own experience; therefor, his narrative was different than others. His life experiences were very important because no one else would be able to help the reader clearly understand what slavery is doing. Fredrick Douglass's Narrative opened many people's eyes to the horrors of slavery and this really helped end it. Without Douglass slavery might have still existed today and a lot of people would lose their freedom because slavery might have still existed today.
