Why do you love Geography?

I love geography because it allows us to investigate the physical systems that affect our daily lives while also investigating the relationship between the physical environment and society. Geography teaches us how to appreciate Earth as the homeland of humankind and provides insight for wise management decisions about how the planet’s resources should be used.

Why did you become a Geography teacher?

Teachers influence the future of a community by supporting its young or helping them discover new things. The main reason why I became a Geography teacher is to help develop learners who are conscious minded about the world around them. Learners who understand others better, who know the limitations of the Earth and the importance of making our planet a liveable one. I want to help learners become open minded and develop an appreciation of different people, cultures, and environments.

It is through Geography that learners are able to explore space, recognise the differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes and environments across the world. It also enables them to explore the links between these differences and Geography while also providing an ideal framework for connecting and bringing together other fields of knowledge which is why Geography is considered as the mother of science.
