His teacher suggested he study art in college but he decided to study business. After twenty years he decided to reconnect with clay. Firsthe made vases, then bowls with faces, leading to clay pieced collages. The self-taught evolution of his art continues today. 
Kimmy Cantrell enjoys developing fresh variations: faces, still lives, nudes and fish. Kimmy uses many forms to tell his stories. He uses asymmetry to challenge traditional definitions of beauty. With flowers and fish, he tells childhood memories of his grandmother (Bama). 
His work is exhibited at galleries, festivals and museums around the world. He lives in Atlanta Ga.
