Medications
Dusulfariam- induces nausea when you drink alcohol. Unpleasant feelings hopefully will teach them to avoid alcohol.
Naltrexone- blocks receptors to brain that reward alcohol consumption. (Reduce craving)
Acamprosate- helps to lessen the cravings, to help patient stop feeling they need alcohol.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- Goal orientated, hands on treatment that uses a practical approach to problem solving. For an alcoholic step 1 would be admitting that you have a problem. Then creating a plan of attack to stop drinking. Lastly put ideas into action.

https://tinyurl.com/yc596c8v
Breaking the Myths of Alcoholism
People are often not as sympathetic towards people who struggle with Alcoholism in comparison to people with other psychological disorders. A common misconception about Alcoholism is that the suffers of it are to blame for letting their own problem with alcohol become that problematic. However, we would never blame a fat person for deliberately putting themselves at risk of a heart attack. So how is it fair to say that someone who has a psychological disorder that makes them dependent on alcohol is to blame for the harm they are doing to their health and social life.
