         <description><![CDATA[<div>Helen, Born in a wealthy family, didn't really need to much for herself. Helen, even though didn't do it much, she really enjoyed sewing. When her family got into a predicament and lost their fortune, Helen had a skill that helped them get by. Before that happened, Helen the few times that she got, she worked with sewing and had constructed her own method that helped her sew. The Zig Zag Stitch. She saw a problem, that the stitch was not sturdy enough, and she fixed it. In society today, that's exactly what engineers do. Helen was her own engineer of her time, helping change the world step by step. Helen and other,&nbsp;engineers, help shape our world to this day.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Her work explaining how electrons travel through semiconductors changed the face of modern computing. Esther Marley Cowell was born May 23, 1922 in New York City. &nbsp; She received a membership in the National Academy of Science and the National Academy of Engineering. She received the National Medal of Science in 2009, was chosen as one of <em>Discover </em>magazine’s Top 50 Women in Science in 2002, and received the Edison Medal from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 1997 – the first woman ever to receive that award.&nbsp; She retired from Xerox in 1998 and became a professor at the University of Rochester where she continued her research until she passed away after being hit by a car in 2014 at the age of 92.&nbsp;</div><div>In conclusion, she was awesome!<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Martha created signals flares with the design from her husband. Martha was 24 and a widow with four children. She found her husbands design for a flare and created it. But there are always challenges while creating things. The two challenges Martha ran into is they had to be simple, and the other problem is how to make them durable, bright, and long lasting. She worked on the design for years then a idea struck her, she should use a firecracker for the base of her design. She elaborated a plane to include fireworks into the night flares. The U.S Navy paid Martha $20,000 for the patent and a contract to allow her to manufacture them. The flares have helped the U.S win wars and save many lives. So thanks to Martha J. Coston we have something to use to help save people and win wars.</div>]]></description>

She was the second woman graduating from Cornell with a degree in civil engineering. She also has a Master's degree in Mathematics and Astronomy from Columbia.<br>She faced employment discrimination because she was a women. Finally she got a job at Baltimore and Ohio Railroad as an engineer of service. She was responsible for improving passenger service on trains. She invented and patented the Dennis Ventilator which allowed passengers to easily control their windows. She played a major role in air conditioning in coaches, dimming lights, and reclining seats. </div>]]></description>

Lillian created many inventions including the foot-pedal trash can, and refrigerator door shelves. At the age of 89, she was the first woman to be elected into the National Academy of Engineering. She was also issued membership number one by the Society of Woman Engineers. Lillian Moller Gilbreth died on January 2nd, 1972 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 94. </strong></div>]]></description>

For three years, Hicks served as a research assistant for the Newark College of engineering, then went on to work at Western Electric ~ becoming the first woman engineer of that company in 1942. She was elected the first president for the Society of Woman Engineers (SWE), she was awarded SWE's highest honor award, the Achievement award in 1963. She was also awarded a doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), making her the first ever woman to receive an honorary doctorate from RPI</div>]]></description>
