This quote presents the trial in a larger scale and shows the jury that all men are equal.
One of the rhetorical devices used in this quote is repetition. The word "some" is used repeatedly to show that we need to look at people as individuals instead of grouping people together by their race.

The evidence of bruising on Mayella's face concludes a left handed man beat her. Tom Robinson, however, got his left arm caught in a cotton gin when he was younger, tearing all the muscle  This suggests he was not physically capable of raping Mayella Ewell despite the claims. This essential evidence further proves Tom innocence through his incapability of the action. Atticus uses the rhetorical device, logos, to persuade the jury with logic and reasoning. He attempts to get the jury to form a similar conclusion about how and why Tom is innocent because the evidence does not support the claim that he raped Mayella.

This quote expresses how in reality, Tom committed no crime. Mayella was the one who came onto him. Mr. Ewell was ashamed of his daughter so he blamed Tom Robinson.He assumed he could win the case since he knew Tom would be discriminated against. Atticus uses pathos in his final speech in order to sway the jury. He tries to make them see that Tom is a human too and that the color of skin does not decrease his humanity. He is trying to convey that there is a code throughout Maycomb that everyone else follows but Mayella broke.  Atticus shows that it would be almost impossible for it to be Tom as the attacker was left-handed and Tom Robinson's hand was useless because of a mill accident.
