Our winery embraces a “family-based style”, reflecting the original spirit of Okanagan’s valley wine culture. Historically wineries in this region were centered around community and family, however, in recent years the focus has shifted toward a more sophisticated , European-inspired approach, emphasizing exclusivity and luxury. This shift has led to fewer locals visiting these wineries. Our goal is to bring that sense of local connection back, creating a space where families, friends, and members of the community can gather, while still enjoying the refinement and quality associated with modern winemaking

Family-run

Playgrounds

Kids’ activities → aims to socialize children with their peers

For our “Winescape,” we thought an important aspect to include would be sustainability. We wanted our guests to be aware of our sustainable practices

so it would be advertised throughout the Winery itself, as well as on social media.

To be more sustainable, we would use sustainable supplies to serve our guests and would create our wine in a sustainable way.

Our winery would feature a garden that grew food capable of surviving with minimal water so it can thrive the best in the Okanagan.

We would use no harmful chemicals and our wine making practice would be organic.

Our winery would be powered with solar panels, and we would work hard to help maintain a healthy ecosystem.

We would not use any pesticides, and would use natural predators to get rid of any bug problems that would arise.

Our winery would feature lots of plants, to make it feel more welcoming and earth-friendly.

Education → we thought it would be important to include some education about the history of the land and more information about the community in general.

We would also have educational pamphlets on the wine featured at our winery.

Key feature → the addition of an interactive experience where visitors can actively participate in the winemaking process.

“Wine on a hill”

Our winery is on a hill in Canada, BC, and all of our electricity is generated by solar panels. Our winery is driven to be inclusive and sustainable. We aim to be a winery that anyone can go to and anyone can enjoy. We believe that wine is for everybody, but this does not mean that we lack quality or top-tier service and experience. Our property is well-maintained and is focused on the experience of education of sustainable practices and learning more about the process of winemaking. By the winery, there is a river where we get water to irrigate the crops. Since our winery will be on a hill, we provide electric vehicle golf carts for people to drive up to the winery. This makes our winery available to anyone, including people with disabilities or old people. While going up the hill, there are sights to see, such as our vineyards, and guests will be able to get a tour of our facility and how we produce our wine sustainably.

The wine tour starts from the bottom using a golf cart and it tours you up to the winery. On the way up you will see the vineyards where we collect the wines from. We will also tour the river area to show where we irrigate the crops with a watermill and the filtration system that makes our winery sustainable. Once we are at our winery there are things to do such as tastings, hand-picking grapes from the vines and seeing how we produce our wine by being able to participate and help in the creation process. After this, you will be able to relax enjoy the beautiful scenery around you and have a nice glass of wine that you know is sustainable.

From the Reading of Hungry Gringos, our winery is an authentic Canadian organic place where everything that is produced and manufactured is free from any processed substances. This makes local and tourist experiences amazing with great tasting and unique from other wineries.

Group #4 - Kiri, Lauren F, Oreoluwa

Romantic: The main aspect of our winery is romance. Because the main consumers of wine tours are couples who are well-educated and rich, the winery will be on a hill, with open windows, and a clear view of sunsets and sunrises. Our winery will have a restaurant that goes through a 3-course meal paired with wine, which rotates every day. Inside the winery, there will be roses, chandeliers with soft lighting, and romantic music that sets the mood. There will be a romantic walkway leading to the winery that couples can take to enjoy the beautiful view with their partner. The winery will also have its own Inn decently distanced from the winery. This gives couples an incentive to stay in this hotel, rather than other ones. The hotel would welcome couples with rose petals on the bed and a very romantic setting. Additional aspects like couple massages, and spas increase tourist gaze as they engage in other sensory and bodily experiences. Emphasis the romantic view of wine-making by using certain vocabulary in the menus and when servers speak. This includes saying wine comes from love and humility, love quotes relating to wine, the passion of winemaking, and how the wine was lovingly produced. Emphasis on the quality and the handcrafted production of wine. Couples can enjoy anniversary events and special holidays with tailored wine and tour packages.

Luxury and Exclusivity: To enhance this romantic factor, we decided to set the scape of our winery to be something of a luxurious feel.

Antique chandeliers hanging from the ceiling

Small, intimate floor plan

Art that describes the theme of the winery - some sort of romantic art that has an expensive feel and gives the setting an erotic feeling

Only two wines made to enhance feeling of luxury and winery specialization

Bookings only, no walk-ins to increase feeling of exclusivity

Staff would be dressed in formal attire such as white gloves, gold name tags, white dress shirts and black jackets. Staff is friendly and genuine

Upon entry, guests are greeted at the door with a “welcome wine”

Has a wine club where members can continue wine education, enjoy complimentary things, and feel exclusive and special

Awards are posted around winery, and put on menu as well

Couples can get customized wine glasses, or wine bottles with their name and the date they visited the winery. Along with other customized merch

Reasoning: Creating a romantic atmosphere for a winery allows the place to feel more intimate, drawing in tourists to have these romantic experiences. A small luxurious feel gives the winery an exclusive feel, making people feel as if they are a part of an elite group enjoying a special experience . This luxurious feel as well creates a feeling of sophistication and status elevating the guests to have a dominant feeling over others. The romantic atmosphere as well, creates a feeling of closeness between partners further creating connections between partners. Additionally, the winery will create sensory experiences, with enjoying the tastes, the sights and as well as the comfort of the winery. The high end details of the winery help foster the feeling of intimacy and luxuriousness overall creating an enjoyable experience.

Sustainability - Pushing for sustainable practices and advertising ourselves in that way. Practices include sustainable process in creating wine (irrigation techniques, disposal), no motorized vehicles around the property, reusable dishware, solar and water energy (through our water wheel) to power any needed technology. This will attract a younger audience, and those who are invested in sustainability. This will also suit our brand, and the whole 'farm, rural aesthetic.' Our choice to incorporate chicken's acts as a fast paced form of composting. As chicken's eat everything, we can harvest the waste to create a nutrient rich soil which ties into our branding of sustainability. Additionally, our winery would offer farm to table practices. We would source any meat and produce from local farms surrounding our vineyards. Our cows (not drawn) would provide cheeses that pair with our wines and we could offer cheese tastings along with wine tastings.

'Farm aesthetic' - incorporating farm animals with some roaming free, the vineyards are available for people to walk through. The main building is a modern styled farmhouse, water wheel running through the river that goes through the entire winery. The winery is located in the middle of a valley, with surrounding mountains, forestry, and water. Lots of farm animals incorporated throughout our winery acts as an increased source of income and creates a welcoming space for all ages. We would have little signs up with names of all our animals and create a petting zoo area where kids can interact and learn about farming and sustainable practices we use on the farm. Additionally, we would offer horse vineyard tours. As we have a large vineyard in a valley, our guests can experience the winery from a unique perspective walking the trails our winemakers/employees walk.

"Family Run" - The farm style plays into this idea of family run, generational wines. The updated, modern farmhouse serves as a private tasting room. The choice of wisteria above the french doors creates a welcoming, aesthetic vibe for visitors. Although this farmstead style winery may be a familiar surrounding, the aim is to create a comfortable space as our winey believes in evoking feelings of being welcomed home and creating family ties. This hints again at our message of being family run. We build on this sentiment with the use of picnic tables and a fireplace where groups can sit together, unwind, and bond. The aim is to find the unique in everyday environments and within our home. We feel that using a family run business is advantageous as many people romanticize the idea of generational wine as something that is specially handcrafted and built with love and care.

"Target Audience" - Our target audience is a middle to high-class demographic who are searching for authenticity within their travel destinations. We prioritize a welcoming atmosphere that gives visitors the opportunity to purely enjoy our delicious wine, while soaking in our beautiful scenery and farm that encapsulates our winery. We want our winery to feel easily accessible to all demographics to ensure that no one feels like an imposter in our family-run winery. We will have horse-back riding lessons, as well as interaction with our animals, so that will bring in families as well because the children will be busy with the excitement from our animals. Overall, we want everyone to feel like family in our family-run winery.

"Elysian Vines"

There will be a grand entrance framed in lush greenery and blooming rose bushes. These roses serve two purposes: they are the classic early warning system of the health of the vines, since they are afflicted by the same diseases, and they add beauty to the space. The paths leading up to the entry will be lined with plants and herbs native to the area; these add fragrance to the welcome, as well as local biodiversity.

The tasting room is designed with sustainable materials in mind, with reclaimed wood and stone used throughout, sourced as much as possible from the local area. Large floor-to-ceiling windows bring in a panorama of the vineyard and allow natural light to flood the room, bringing the outside in. Furniture is made from local artisans, emphasizing handmade quality over mass production. Each table has a mini herb garden that the guest is welcome to tend and use through their wine tasting as a memento of our practices in sustainability.

Adjacent to the tasting room, an outdoor terrace boasts panoramic views of the estate. Dotted with comfortable seating areas, fire pits, and outdoor heaters, this space encourages guests to linger. Solar-powered lanterns and fireflies create a magical ambiance in the evenings. Here, guests can also enjoy art installations that showcase local artists, fostering community connections.

The vineyard is interspersed with cover crops that enrich the soil and enhance biodiversity, which creates a picturesque scene while attracting beneficial insects. Each row of vines is bordered by trellises supporting climbing plants, providing shade and enhancing the landscape’s aesthetic. Occasionally, we’ll place sculptures made from metal and reclaimed wood throughout the vineyard, telling stories of the land and winemaking traditions.

The education center, at the heart of the winery, showcases through interactive displays our sustainable agriculture practices: organic farming, water conservation techniques, and the importance of biodiversity. This is the place for learning by both our visitors and local students, emphasizing our commitment to community education and environmental stewardship.

The wine cellar is designed to be cool and dark, with naturally insulated stone walls. We use gravity-fed systems where possible to limit the amount of pumps in wine production, reflecting our philosophy of minimal intervention. The shelves are set out beautifully, allowing for easy viewing while reflecting the care put into each bottle. Guided tours can be made available, which explain our process of winemaking and philosophy.

An open-air event space integrates into the landscape, creating a stunning backdrop to gatherings. In the design, there's a natural amphitheatre that could accommodate music events and community gatherings. It is lined with potted plants and fairy lights for an enchanting atmosphere.
