My name is Mikkayla, and I have lived most of my life right here in Spring Lake Park. My main hobbies include video games, embroidery, and cribbage. I also have an extensive Pokemon card collection. I live with my mother, father, and younger sister. I am infamously bad at cooking.

What I did this summer

I didn't do much this summer. I went to an art camp in June, where I made several bad paintings. I also went camping at Nerstrand State Park in southern Minnesota. My family got a dog, our first pet since our old cat, Buster. I also played a few new video games this summer, namely Deltarune.

One thing going well in my life is my "job". I do unpaid volunteer shifts at the library, for 1-2 hours a week. I do things like pull books on hold, move shelves, do software feedback, and more. I really enjoy it. It gets me out of the house and meeting people, and all the library staff are the nicest, most understanding people I've ever met.

I do quite enjoy art, especially painting. One of my favorite artists is Edward Hopper, a part of the American realism movement. His most famous painting, Nighthawks, is actually the background of this Padlet. I find Hopper's process fascinating. He would completely sketch out what he wanted his painting to look like before he started, with all the details already written down. I relate a lot more to when he said that sometimes it took months for him to come up with an idea to paint.

Strengths, Needs, and Interests

The only strength I know I have is public speaking. I am not afraid to get up in front of a crowd and talk about something or give a presentation. Something I need to succeed in school is coherent grading systems. A 'proficient' won't make as much sense to me as an A or C will. I have a strong interest in languages, how they develop, and factors that can change them.
