    Dear Maria,

    Hi, Maria! I received your email regarding culture! Remembered what we had learned in English class? We can never imagine just how amazing and surprizing different cultures are. I believe that from discussing different aspects of different culture, we can all recieve deep insights from this discussion.

    I agreed with your opinion that cultural differences is very common and important to our daily lives. To build up on this, I think what makes different culture important is their corresponding identity. Imagine a world everyone have the same belief, dressing, and passion. Wouldn't that be crazy and ridiculous? At least, to me, humans have no meanings of existence when everyone agrees upon the same culture, or when everyone's culture can be united. It is the cultural difference that makes our world interesting and colorful.

    Also, to your words regarding accepting the existence of cultural differences, I agree with you. Disputes are common. We do not have to agree with everyone on earth as long as we respect them. By saying respect, I mean that we should not bother or "bully" them. As well as how we see the story. Our sympathetic heart tolds us that the man loves his son and wants his son to be healthy. Our sympathetic heart at the same time reminds us that the parents of the sacrificed boy will mourn and pray for their dead son just as the murderer. From different perspectives, we can obtain very different interpretations of a single case. But what's more, if there's a third choice (such as medical care) that can satisfy both the man and the sacrificed boy, why not choose the third choice?

    To me the bigger problem is that one can only insist his or her own culture under the circumstance that he or she does not violate the others' culture. In the story, although ritual sacrifice is part of the man's culture, but a human sacrifice......probably doesn't apply to the boy's family. At least to me, sacrificing one's life for another's sake is quite unfair, isn't it? Nah......insisting one's own culture but violating others'......doesn't make any sense to me......at all. 

    Oh, by the way, this is not the only email I wrote to you (I had wrote another funny one before I recieve your email). However, instead of sending to Maria from the present, the email is for Maria from the future. So look forward to it!
