Form in Architecture
The form in architecture refers simply on the shape or structure of the building. This becomes one of the primary elements of architecture because this is what you see first. Together with space, they form the primary elements of architecture because of how form encloses a space in a certain location and creates shelter for human occupation.
Function in Architecture
Function is completely different from form because this is not what you see firsthand. The function simply explains the utility or the purpose of the structure. This is only seen or understood when analyzing a specific architecture.
Relationship of Form and Function in Architecture
Observing architecture can sometimes focus on one thing: structural design of a building (form) and we sometimes tend to appreciate its beauty and not include analyzing what purpose it has. However, in order to fully appreciate the beauty of architecture, one must recognize the function of that certain structure and be able to connect the two together. Function will always go first before form.

The Art of the Flatiron Building
New York has always been recognized as one of the cities that cater to thousands of buildings. It has also been the center for pop culture in the modern world. New York is filled with buildings that have been present since the early 1900s and so it has always been very welcoming to novel structural designs today. One of the structures that makes one think of New York is the Flatiron Building. Located at the heart of the city, the building is fixed at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway. What makes it different from other infrastructures is that it is formed in a triangular shape, with the distinction that most photographers loved. Upon reaching the intersection, the building becomes shallow hence still occupying the small space of the area. The Flatiron Building was originally created to be a dorm for male workers during 1902 but today, it only a house for publishing business and small stores. Even before its creation, most of the people thought that the building was "not stable enough to survive due to its free-standing structure" but we can see today that the Flatiron building has become the symbol of the city of New York. Though the consideration of its basic function, the Flatiron building was very integral in occupying the space between two big roads and at the same time, representing the ever-changing and uniqueness of New York.
