symbol with personal significance 9/12

Something that has personal significance to me would be my pearl earrings that my grandmother had given me back when I turned 18. This is important to me because she is no longer with us. It makes me both happy and sad because it reminds me of her and the good times we had bit it also reminds me that she is no longer with me. This object is important also because I believe that family is forever and this just symbolizes that belief. It aspires me to live to my values because I know my grandma is always watching over me. For this symbol I don't get that sad over it anymore because I know she's in a better place and even though I still miss her a-lot, I know that time has passed and I have to move on to some extent. This symbol connects me with who I am because I know my grandma is proud of me and watching me from heaven.

When you think think about patriotism what emotions come up?

What patriotism is to me is the United States and what our freedom is. I feel pride when I think about how far our country has come since 100 years ago. Women are able to go to work and to vote. We have freedom of speech and freedom to make our own choices. I think of the American flag when I think about the United States. I believe that my loyalty to my country is to vote and to go to school and be nice to most of the people that I meet. When I see people disrespecting the flag and our freedom it makes me sad but I just know myself as well as many other people are not like that so it makes me feel a bit better.

Throughout my 21 years on this earth. My parents have been not super religious but religious non the less, and they have always installed Christianity in me. I have gone to church I went to a private Christian academy so religion has definitely had a huge impact on my life. Because of my parents being Christian, I was really never exposed to any other religion. So when I came to college, I met people of all different religions. I thought this was interesting because we had some things in common and things that we didn't as far as religion goes.

Throughout my childhood, there have been many different religious practices that I can remember. For instance, praying before bed and praying before meals was a common thing in my household. My parents had specifically introduced these things to me but the rest of many family members also did these things when we would have family gatherings. These things have definitely influenced how I look at my religion because praying before a meal is thanking God for the food he has provided on this earth and provided us with. Praying before bed is a way of thanking God for the day and thanking him for waking you up the next day. These things have definitely shaped how I look at things now that I am older because when your younger you kind of take these things for granted and only really do them because your parents are telling you to but when you get older you understand that not everyday is certain so you need to be thankful that you are well and be thankful for everything that God has provided you because some people do not have as much.

Some of the things that weigh on my life more times than not is death. It scares me ironically to death. I believe in God and that there is a heaven, but how are we 100% certain because all of the people who would know if there truly is a heaven are no longer here with us to tell us all about it. We have the Bible to give us ideas about what heaven is like but how do we know? How do we know if there really is a heaven? What happens to our soul after we pass? All of these questions consistently run through my mind from time to time. I choose to trust the process that God has provided for us but what about the people who do not believe in God? Is hell a real thing and is it what the Bible has described it to be? For someone to have experienced either heaven or hell, they had to have passed on. So how would they be able to write in the Bible or anywhere else to tell the story on what heaven and hell is. Again, I do believe in God and heaven being real, this is just something that weighs on my mind because to me either way death is a scary thing.

Truth

Truth. What is it? Truth is something that could be different from me to you, or we both could believe in the same truth. Truth is something that without a doubt you believe to be true. Jesus dying on a cross is a truth for me. But for someone else, this may not be a truth for them. Lying to be known as wrong is a truth for me but other people might not see it the same way. i believe there are two different kinds of truths. The first one is when you just believe something to be true. There is not much evidence to say it is or isn't but you just believe that whatever it may be, is true. The other kind of truth is where you believe it because there is scientific evidence to back up whatever you believe is true. I think everyone has different truths but also there are people who have the same truths especially in religion and culture as well.

Me, being a Christian who has a German culture. There are going to be so many people who are differently both religiously as well as through culture. I cannot completely understand how someone who is differently might feel about my practices and culture because I am not in their shoes. If it were me, I may feel a little uncomfortable but I would respect what they are doing because everyone does different things for a different reason and just because I either do not do those things that they are doing or I do them a different way, I will not say they are wrong because everyone just has different preferences. Understanding this and not judging would bring me and this person closer together and they would hopefully feel comfortable around me because I support them and their decision to believe in what they believe in.

Many Indigenous cultures view the world and earth as a very sacred thing. They view the earth as sort of a mother figure to them. Their relationship with the earth is very spiritual. Industrial beliefs are that the earth is here to provide resources for our benefit. This view is very materialistic as seeing water, land, and materials are entitled to us human beings.
