         <description><![CDATA[<div>What Impact did the Great Depression have on families? <br>--&gt; Families were often evicted from their homes, and forced to make slum houses called "Shanties"; buildings made from corrugated iron. There were entire communities created from this form of temporary housing. <br><br>--&gt; A lack of money and job security meant official marriages and birth rates fell. Additionally, women also had to turn to having illegal abortions because having an extra mouth to feed could tip a family over the edge.  <br><br></div>]]></description>
