The concurrent fall in demand and increase in supply would reinforce each other to cause a sharper fall in equilibrium price. However, the effect on equilibrium quantity is indeterminate as it depends on the relative extent of changes in demand and supply. If the fall in demand is greater than the increase in supply, equilibrium quantity will fall. On the other hand, if the fall in demand is smaller than the increase in supply, equilibrium quantity will rise.

Initial equilibrium,E1is at the intersection of Q1 and P1. Supply curve shifts to the right from S1 to S2 and demand curve shifts to the left from D1 to D2. The supply curve has a greater shift than the demand curve. Hence, there is surplus and this exerts a downward pressure on the curve, which forms a new equilibrium at E2 which is at the intersection of P2 and Q2. Hence, equilibrium quantity has increased from Q1 to Q2, while equilibrium price has fallen from P1 to P2.

There is a fall in demand due to consumers switching away to cheaper alternatives like robusta beans in Vietnam. Hence, demand curve shifts to the right.

There is a rise in supply due to high investment in factors of production of coffee beans and high response received by consumers 2 years ago (2011). Hence supply curve shifts to the right.

However, supply curve shifts greater than demand curve shift. This is because supply increase is greater than demand decrease. This is due to the oversupply in beans due to excessive production of factor of input and the fact that most of Brazillian crops are comprised of coffee beans. Hoever demand decreases by a smaller proportion as coffee is still a great necessity to consumers so they could switch away to robusta beans, but not by a large proportion.

1. Demand: The demand of coffee is falling due to cheaper robusta beans of Vietnam booming. This causes consumers to switch away from Brazil beans to robusta beans. This can be seen in 'But these drinkers are filling their pots with cheaper robusta beans-what Kona Haque of Macquarie dubs the "emerging-market coffee''. Hence, due to a decrease in demand for coffee beans, there was a fall in price of coffee beans, ceteris paribus.

2. Supply: Supply of coffee is rising due to rising cost of production as stated in 'In response to the high prices of 2011 Brazilian farmers invested heavily in new acreage and improved yields with better husbandry and more fertiliser. Hence, since there is greater investment in factor of production, there is greater supply of coffee beans, hence resulting in a fall in price, ceteris paribus.

2. Supply: Supply of coffee increases as due to the great response received by consumers in 2011. This can be seen in 'Many Brazilian and Colombian farmers invested to boost production of arabica in response to the high prices of 2011, which has added to the oversupply and further depressed prices', Hence due to an increase in supply and oversupply, this resulted in a fall in price of coffee beans, ceteris paribus
