2. How are we affected by literary texts in various ways? How are we impacted by TTTC?
These texts can change us emotionally, and change our outlook in the world. It forces us to be more open minded in order to understand the purpose of the book, and as a result, we learn and grow from it. In this book, the audience is forced to learn the true horrors and fears of being a soldier, losing friends and loved ones, and questioning or not whether it was worth it to be drafted into the war. The message that is conveyed about societal pressures impacts us in a way that we change our outlook on those who may be in the military, or people that may have jobs where they risk their lives, just because they are pressured to do so by society.

3. In what ways is meaning constructed, negotiated, expressed and interpreted in TTTC?
The meaning is conveyed in several different aspects of the book, with it being conveyed in several different manners throughout the characters of the book, all of whom have had different outcomes, but have faced the same ordeal into their situation: pressure from their communities. It is expressed differently through the eyes of each character, and with this theme, there are also several others that lay with the individual characters themselves.

4. How does the structure of style of TTTC affect its meaning?
Since this is a series of vignettes, it is different in the sense that it provides a lot of different perspectives with its diversity in characters, one could be focusing on any character in this story, and the audience is able to learn about them, and further understand the purpose of this book.

The several shifts in structure and style to start with the most basic idea, keep the reader engaged. It also affects how the meaning of the story is conveyed to the reader; two writers could have similar themes, but the messages behind those themes could be completely different. In the case of Morrison, her constant shifts in point of view and other strategies help the reader further understand her themes by conveying them through several different characters; creating a complex message that could be applied to several individuals and several different situations.

Time and Space

The cultural and historical context is very important to a story; it is usually known as a "setting" in basic terms. It provides a background for the reader to understand the start and the reasons for the events throughout the story. In the case of Morrison, the context provided with this book provide so much to the understanding of the horrors of slavery, and how the "peculiar institution" truly was a method of torture for these individuals just because they were different.

It reveals the importance of religion and these societal concepts in Columbian culture, as explored through the several different characters, where the church governs the society, and the gender identities prevent people from exploring their own sense of individuality. Aside from this, honor also plays a large role, as maintaining this is more important than maintaining their moral compass.
