Review over the historical fiction text The Keeping Quilt.

This book was a really good historical fiction book on the Jewish culture. It starts with the narrator telling stories about her grandmother and mother. She would talk about the way their weddings were very traditional and the quilt they kept passing down. Once it got to the narrator she was more in our modern time and did not have a traditional Jewish wedding. She invited more than just her Jewish friends. The one thing that did stay traditional was the passing down of the quilt.

Blog Post over the Caldecott Book Nana in the City

I really connected with this book. I also called my grandma nana and she also did live in the city. I remember going to visit her and always being so excited because she was so fun. She knew how to make everything better. This is the same for this book. The little boy was scared of all the noises that came along with the big city, so it was nana to the rescue. She sewed him up a red cape so he could feel like a superhero and not be scared anymore. It worked for him and he was able to go explore the city. I think most of us can relate to grandmas helping make everything better.

Book Review on the Coretta Scott King Award Nominee One Crazy Summer

When I first picked up this book I really had no idea what it was going to be about. Once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down. It was based in the time that the Black Panthers were around and three sisters. The girls dad packs them up to go see their mom who left them when they were young, and that's how their crazy summer begins. I liked how this book had some historical background like the rallies the panthers would have. I also liked how the roles changed to where it was the mom who left the girls unlike it always being the dads who leave.

I would definitely read this to a little bit older kids, maybe like 3rd to 5th grade.

A review on the Realistic Fiction book Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace is a story about a little girl who is told that she can't do something because of her sex and her race. I like that it brings that to the attention to the reader. Grace loved to listen to stories and act them out all the time. When the kids at school were telling her these rude things her grandma and mom took her to a play to show her that you can do whatever you put your mind to. I think this is a great story because it shows her not giving up and getting the part of Peter Pan even though she is a girl and black. This book has a great message behind it.

A Review on the Realistic Fiction book Emma Kate

This was a simple book about a girl and her imagination. She had an imaginary elephant named Mary Kate. They would so everything together including getting their tonsils removed and eating ice cream together. This is an easy reader for younger kids. I like how it shows the creativity that kids have. I would read this as a quick read before transitioning as a time user.

The Unlucky Lottery Winners of Classroom 13 By: Honest Lee and Matthew J. Gilbert

A Recommendation on the Fantasy Book The Unlucky Lottery Winners of Classroom 13

This is a fun fiction book about a class and their teacher who won the lottery. The teacher in this book was a very unlucky lady. She bought a lottery ticket one day and made a contract with her class that if she won she would split the winnings with them evenly, just because she thought she would never win. Turns out she won! This book goes on with each chapter being about a different kid in the class and how they are spending their money. It's very entertaining because the things that happen to the kids and the money would never happen in real life. It's just a funny book and i think kids would love it.

Letter to a friend about the non fiction book The Great American Dust Bowl

Dear Marissa,
I read this book about the Dust Bowl and it was filled with so many great facts. Being that I know you are going to be a teacher i know this book could play a great roll in a history lesson. This book is set up like a graphic novel. It has lots of pictures to go along with the story of the dust bowl. It also has images showing things like plate tectonic movement, so it helps the reader understand more than just the dust bowl.

Always,
Cyan Robles

It is about eleven slaves and their lives. On one page it would have an illustration of the person along with their age, name, and how much they cost. They next page would be about their time at the Fairchilds estate. It would tell what they would do day to day. On the following page it would have their dreams. This book was such a great read with wonderful illustrations.
