Even into adulthood my mother has micromanaged me. This is no surprise, considering the children are faced with constant anxiety to please their parent. with little to no emotional support. I grew up in an authoritarian household and I do, in fact, have anxiety. These styles are Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, and Uninvolved. Authoritative is regarded as the most healthy parenting style, that combines high control and high warmth. Authoritarian parenting is described as high control, with little to no warmth. Permissive, on the other hand, is described as little to no control, but high warmth. Another serious identity issue that these children often suffer from is the inability to appropriately act in social settings. This social awkwardness stems from always being told what to do and how to act. This can involve punitive tasks, pushing boundaries, or even degrading the child. I remember a time from my childhood, when I tripped and fell going up the stairs while walking to the neighbor's house with my mom. I was extremely embarrassed and asked her not to mention it to the neighbors or their other guests. However, my mother disregarded my embarrassment and laughed it off with the others at my expense. I was very hurt after that, and it made me hesitant to share anything with her in the future.

Authoritarian parents are quick to punish, but lack the skills to use positive reinforcement as a means of teaching their children. Also, authoritarian parenting can have negative effects on the children that they raise.
