Angie Thomas was born in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1988, Angie Thomas published her first work of young adult fiction in February 28, 2017 – The Hate U Give. 

Angie was raised by her mother, Julia Thomas, and grandmother in Jackson. 

During her younger years, she was a rapper, performing a few times and giving interviews on the radio and in newspapers. She began rapping at the age of 9. Her mother was her manager.  

What does the story talk about: 

The main character is Starr Carter. Star is 16 years old and moves between two worlds: her troubled neighborhood, inhabited by black people like her, and the school she attends in an elegant residential area for white people. The fragile balance between these two realities is broken when Starr becomes the only witness to a policeman's fatal shooting at Khalil, his best friend. From there, death threats hover over Starr: everything she says about the crime she witnessed can be used in her favor by some, but above all as a weapon for others. 

Why I recommend it: 

I recommend this story because it talks about a serious and important subject, racism. Star is a good example of what so many people go through and that is the death of a close one in an early age. This topic is so important because people have to see as an human and not as an people of color. So with this book I learned that your color is not something that people should see you as, your color is something that you should be proud either if it is black, white... 

 

However, he wasn’t immediately successful as an artist. When Rodin tried to enrol at the best art school in Paris, his application was rejected. After that, Rodin became an apprentice and worked for other sculptors. His own pieces weren’t exhibited in public until 1871.” 

 

 

I liked this part of the text because the sculptor Auguste Rodin didn’t gave up on his dream after being rejected by the art school in Paris. He worked for other sculptors and became an apprentice, and with that he improved on his art and became the most talented sculptor of his time. This part of the text shows that you should never gave up on yours dreams even if some people don’t see your potential.
