Soldiers returned home as the war ended came in contact with loved ones and started the spreading of the flu. Another cause was the nature of transportation at the time, and the amount of transport happening between the U.S. and Europe because of World War I, the virus quickly spread globally.

A good connection to this influenza pandemic is the Covid-19 virus in 2020 which caused a worldwide pandemic that resulted in people going into lockdown and self-quarantining. It resulted in the deaths of 6.8 million. Since people were so unprepared during the influenza pandemic, the fatalities were higher. We learned that by using masks it prevented the spreading of it even further.
