•	Tell me how your presentation and strategic planning session went with your agency. Were you able to get good discussion from them? Was the audience engaged? What are you proud of?
•	Any advice for students next year that you would like me to share or discuss at a deeper level with next year's students related to creating the presentation or giving the presentation?
•	Are there any other questions, concerns, or general comments about the class or any updates in your life you would like to share with me?

Telephone Recovery Support at UK PATHways - Julie Bowers-Pryor

I did my presentation yesterday and it went better than I could have hoped (it may have helped that I ordered pizza for everyone since I was presenting during lunch). Everyone expressed interest in moving forward with telephone recovery support and some great ideas and thoughts emerged during the planning session. We had an interesting conversation on how we need to be intentional to empower our clients by asking them if it is a good time to talk when we call so that they have the autonomy to decline the call if it is not. Doing this will also communicate to our clients that we want to respect them and their time. The program supervisor was very impressed with my slide presentation and said they may use some of my slides in future presentations that they give. The picture I have included was not taken the day of the presentation but the day before for promoting a grant. It includes all of the PATHways clinical team and nine of them were in attendance for my presentation.

As far as advice for next year’s students…. bringing food to your presentation can be a great motivator for attendance. I encourage future students to resist procrastinating on the project so that they can bring excellence to the PowerPoint slides. I also suggest that they aim for their project to be focused on something that they are genuinely excited about so that they can really get behind the hard work that they are doing. I think that has been a huge help for me in this process and was reflected in my communication on the project during my presentation. The presentation attendees really enjoyed the interactive aspects of the presentation so I would also encourage incorporating interaction throughout the presentation if they can.

My presentation went well and I was really proud of myself because I do not like public speaking but it was much easier talking about something I have been working on for months than I expected! I think the presentation helped my and my supervisor shift a couple actions based on feedback and everyone at the agency has really been supportive of me moving towards graduation and finishing my coursework. The agency right now had recently been through a nurses strike due to insufficient staffing and it was exciting to see the agency agreeing to up staffing because this helps with many alternative intervention methods such as increased contact time, motivational interviewing, and greater empowerment for staff and patients leading to a better overall experience.

My presentation went alright but it was a little stressful. I was one of those students that had technical difficulties due to a software upgrade not being compatible with my lap top and also a calendar mix up. I canceled my general presentation and only presented to the CEO of the agency and the Development Director. I forward a copy of my presentation to others that were originally scheduled to come. Luckily, because this is a project I’ve been working on outside of my course commitments, I’d presented the same material at a managers meeting recently. Everyone who needed to hear the information was included so overall things went well. I am very proud of the work I’ve done and the time I put into it.

I presented my project this week and it went okay. I discovered that the most challenging component was simply scheduling the presentation. As my practicum is in a school district, and I am involved in the elementary, middle and high school, so it was tough trying to come to some common ground as to when to actually hold the presentation. Furthermore, teachers in my district fully utilize their planning periods for team/grade level meetings, meetings with administration, student remediation or rewards, etc. Additionally, each grade level has a different time throughout the day that they are assigned planning periods...so there was just no realistic way to include everyone that wouldn't have encroached on their own, personal time outside of school. I managed to present to a few individuals (my supervisor, 2/3 of the school counselors and a handful of teachers). I did send the presentation to the entire elementary school staff and, overall, received a lot of positive feedback from those who viewed my work. Since the presentation itself was a bit of a kerfuffle, I made myself available after school yesterday afternoon as well as throughout the day today in the building to meet with and answer questions for anyone who felt it necessary. There is a lot of interest in the change I'm hoping to implement (mindfulness activities), so I am excited to see where this goes. I held a little strategic planning session with the counselor at the elementary school, and we shifted my action plan a little bit to have me tag-team with her over the next month and implement some mindfulness activities in several of the classrooms she teaches in throughout the week, as her focus is on growth mindset throughout March. I think this is the perfect opportunity and I will also be supplying teachers with some exercises they can do in their classrooms to reinforce the skills.

As far as advice goes for future students, be sure to communicate and plan WITH your agency, not FOR your agency. It may take some significant advanced planning to maximize your time. For me, personally, I wish I had known ahead of time when a professional development day is. The students are released early and staff remain to work on anything that needs to be addressed (trainings, meetings, report cards, etc.). If this had been communicated with me- granted it would have expedited how quickly I needed to have my presentation done, I could have captured more of an audience by working with administration to secure a time slot. This would have helped immensely!

When they say timing is everything it is! I presented my power-point presentation, and received a lot of positive feedback. They all said the timing of me presenting my power-point could not have come soon enough. My practicum site is actually working on putting together an aftercare program, and they plan to use my power-point as part of their presentation to corporate. Right now, they are still in the preparation stage, and we have had meetings of ideas if that makes sense, with various departments and individuals. Overall, I am happy with my presentation, and feel like I am really apart of this new journey in planning the aftercare program. Some tips for other students would be to really get a feel of what the agency needs are; I found you can get more people attention, and help.

My presentation went well- I presented to the set of interns, clinic Co-Directors, and other therapists in the agency reviewed the project. A good discussion was had, although it did not pertain directly to the action plan. One issue raised in my presentation was "lack of responsibility by all parties on whose role it is to help excel the clinic". Both the co-directors and the fee-for-service clinicians were quick to defend their side. It was actually really nice to have the open discussion, as this often causes tension in the office. However, having this discussion in the open was interesting, and my supervisors actually thanked me for providing a space where they felt like they heard real, honest feedback. The audience was engaged with the project, but also understood that the time crunch from starting my practicum 3 weeks late (because New England) inhibited this project from being entirely relevant. Advice for students next year: discuss something that is relevant with the agency in semester 1. My practicum supervisor and I threw something together in the time crunch of me starting late. We made it through and the project turned out fine. However, when second semester rolled around, we were surprised to find out that we actually had to continue the project and not just start from scratch, a fresh start in a new semester. Knowing the two semesters were directly tied together would have helped both my and my agency's buy-in on the project.

I presented today and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it went. Nine people attended. I was well prepared for the presentation portion and it went smooth. During the strategic planning process all attendees participated. They had great ideas and it opened a conversation about changes they would like to see even after I complete practicum. One attendee mentioned she had been thinking about some of the action plan items we decided upon, she just hadn’t known how to bring them up. I am proud of how willing everyone was to participate. I felt they cared about my project and supported me.

One piece of advice is to practice the strategic planning process. I rehearsed it several times at home and I know that it went smooth because I had practiced. Additionally, it is okay to make a mistake. I provided a statistic that was not accurate and one of the attendees correct me mid presentation. I did not stumble, I used it to add to my presentation stating, “this is why these meeting are so important, to ensure the correct data is being distributed.”

I am excited this portion is complete. I presented today, and I will work on creating the document for the action plan and evaluation to submit.

Ebony, great job completing your presentation. I mentioned rehearsing the strategic planning process as advice for future students. As I read through the steps I knew I had to rehearse it to ensure it went smooth. I rehearsed it at least five times and it went very smooth. I did make adjustments each rehearsal.
