I prepared really well for this marathon. The first thing I did was to look on the website because I wanted to know if there were more people running the marathon with a stoma.

I found that you can get a toilet pass if you have a stoma, so I made sure I got one.

I also posted a message about running with the Crohn's desease. My goal was to get in contact with more people with the same 'disabillities' as me. Through this message I found Alex, he; s going to help me while I'm in London.

To prepare for the marathon I made sure to run a few kilometers every day, eat healthy high protein foods so my muscles will recover and before my trainings I eat a high carb meal for extra energy.

I flew from Schiphol Amstrdam to London Heathrow airport. The flight went really well and there were no difficulties with my stoma. I went to London two days before the marathon, so that i had enough time to settle and prepare for the marathon. I also send a message to Alex so that I could meet up with him the next day

At first I was a little nervous, I woke up very early because of the nerves. But mostly I was exited. I ate some breakfast and changed my stoma to make sure I didn't had to change it during the marathon. I packed a fanny pack with some supplies. Energy drinks, some gels and stoma supplies. I met up with Alex and we went to the start. I picked up my starting number and my toilet pass. I went to the toilet one more time to make sure my stomabag was empty and then I started walking to my group.

We started jogging, I saw the starterline in front of me and I knew that the time has come to begin. I crossed the startingline and the first thing I noticed was that there were lots of supporters. This made me feel really great because everyone was cheering you up. The first few kilometers went by really fast and I was feeling great. The run went very smoothly and after some time I noticed that I had already ran 1/4th of the marathon. By now I still hadn't have any difficulties with my stoma.

About halfway through I noticed that my syomabag was getting full. I saw the toilets at the side of the road so I went there to empty my stoma. When I was done I got back into the group and went further with running. The rest of the marathon went pretty well, it was hard and my legs were sore at the end but I did finish it!
