He starts of with this noble man to represent the best of the land. He's the standard of excellence. This character has been in numerous wars and battles and even wears fustian clothing to exemplify his humbleness. Chaucer's description of the Knight is of very high regard. "He was of sovereign value in all eyes./ And though so much distinguished, he was wise" (Chaucer 74). He's the model and all further characters are compared to him.
